IFA 2007: Philips launch Aurea
I love Philips press conferences. Already, we've been treated to women dancing in red dresses which have swirled up round their heads. There's been chiffon, seduction music and lots of atmospheric lighting. We already know a fair amount about Aurea….
IFA 07: LG DVR Pause and Play TV and PC users
For those of you into your pause and play TV, LG also had new 160GB DVRs with dual digital tuners on display. Each will naturally allow you to watch one program while recording another. They’ve got Freeview Playback Certification from the UK’s Digital TV group, so you can record subtitles and closed captions, in addition to video and audio, as well as intelligently schedule recording times in case a TV programme over-runs.
IFA 07: Sony WALKMAN A and S series – DRM and DRM-free listening
In the midst of telling us about their plans to turn the world HD (stay tuned for video of this for soon!), Sony also found time to launch a colourful new array of WALKMAN Video MP3 players that now include WMA as a supported format and bear the “PlaysForSure” Windows certification logo.
IFA 07: Tech Digest and Shiny Shiny live from Berlin
Susi, Alex, Chris, Ashley and I have all stormed Berlin, Germany, en masse for three days full of convention centre-trudging, otherwise known as IFA. Of which I’m not quite sure what it stands for, but rest assured the ‘I’ is International. Or Internationale, as we say here in steiner and weiner-ville.
You would’ve noticed a few posts already up on Tech Digest and Shiny Shiny covering important announcements made today so far, keep pressing ‘refresh’ on your web browser for the next three days on these two sites, as we bring you all the latest news concerning consumer electronics.
Auf wiedersehen!

CEDIA expo 2007: JVC V-series LCD TVs
Yesterday at CEDIA 2007 I grabbed ahold of JVC’s man of the hour, Steven Carter, to discuss their latest range of TVs, the V-series. With two options (the 42″ model being released in July, for £1,500, and the 47″ model – yes, you read that right, a 47″ LCD telly, those crazy kids at JVC are thinking outside of the box, coming in at £2,000 in August), they’re for those large of lounge and deep of pockets…
CEDIA expo 2007: Arcam MS250 music server video review
Yesterday at the CEDIA expo in London, I managed to grab a few minutes to chat to Stefan from Arcam about their new MS250 music server. Able to stream music around the house to four different zones, so you can listen to four different tracks at once – Dad in the lounge listening to Dire Straits, Mum in the kitchen listening to the Mama and the Papas, etc etc, it’ll keep the whole family happy. And if you happen to have a third child, well, buying the MS250 is the perfect excuse to adopt them out…
Get set for Europe's first Virtual Worlds conference
Hang on a minute, if you’re holding a conference to talk about virtual worlds, shouldn’t it be held in Second Life or World of Warcraft? I daresay there’ll be some whizzy virtuality happening around the European Virtual Worlds Forum in October, but it’s a real-world event too, taking place in London.
