The killer app of Microsoft Zune was supposed to be its built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, which would let you merrily share music with other Zune owners, without fear of a big fat lawsuit from the music industry. And since iPod couldn’t do it, the feature seemed set to give Zune a real chance at toppling Apple’s market-dominating MP3 player.

Ocean Blue calls for a single PVR standard
Ocean Blue Software has called for a single standard for digital TV recorders (PVRs). Managing Director of Ocean Blue said that the introduction of Freeview Playback has been a step in the right direction, but that most PVRs contain proprietary software due to a lack of industry standard guidelines.
Ocean Blue would like to see a single brand across satellite, cable, and even IPTV broadcasts. Their Voyager software system is already the standard mandated middleware solution for Freeview digital TV receivers, while Sunrise is a DVB compliant suite of software that can receive analogue and digital video and audio, with Surfsoft being a Freeview Playback standard.
Could Ocean Blue be suggesting that they would offer the best software standard?
iRiver unveils W10 PMP with Wi-Fi and VoIP
iRiver is sticking everything bar the kitchen sink into its personal media players nowadays, and its new W10 PMP is no exception. There’s not much information on its specs, other than the fact that it supports VoIP and a location-based Wi-Fi technology called WPS.

Oh woe. Woe! Us Brits can’t buy a Zune yet, and it’s still unclear whether we’ll be able to this side of Christmas. For those of us who think Microsoft’s personal media player could – eventually – provide some much-needed competition for Apple’s iPod, the ongoing delay in bringing Zune across the Atlantic is frustrating.

Archos has unveiled its new line of personal media players, dubbed Generation 5. It includes three new PMPs, the 405, 605 and 705, which for the first time will support Flash-based video from YouTube and other online video-sharing sites.
