What does the HD DVD meltdown mean for Xbox 360?
It’s been an eventful pre-CES Friday, what with Warner announcing that it’s backing Blu-ray over HD DVD, and the subsequent cancellation of the HD DVD Promotion Group’s CES press conference.
CES 2008: HD DVD camp cancels their press conference in wake of Warner Blu-ray exclusive
Massive news has just come in concerning the future of HD DVD, related to this afternoon’s announcement about film studio Warner going Blu-ray exclusive. Prepare yourselves, as this is Kleenex worthy. I’ve been sobbing uncontrollably the last half an hour since discovering this disaster.
Radiohead: "We've made more money from In Rainbows than all the other albums put together…"
Many people thought Radiohead were mad to let fans choose their own price for the band’s new ‘In Rainbows’ album, but it appears Thom Yorke and co are having the last laugh. In the latest issue of Wired, he says the band is rolling in dosh (I paraphrase, obviously):
Facebook gets its own brain training game
You can shove your Dr. Kawashima where the sun don’t shine – the hot new thing is connected brain training on Facebook. At least, that’s what I reckon after playing Who Has The Biggest Brain?, a new Facebook app that tests your grey cells against those of your friends.
20 things to do online on Christmas Day
Should you find yourself at a loose end on Christmas Day, with nothing but a laptop and Internet connection, then here are twenty things you could do to pass the time until the Boxing Day sales start and you can go and buy yourself a new sofa. Though I think Zara might have something to say about “>not being geeky on Christmas Day
1. Find as many ways of watching the Queen’s Christmas Day speech as possible
Yes, yes, it’s on BBC1, ITV1, BBC HD, and Sky HD, but this year it will be sent out as a podcast, will be available on the BBC News web site, and will no doubt appear on YouTube at some point – probably by some geek testing out his new laptop.

Long term review: Asus Eee PC
You might remember my positive review of the teeny-tiny Asus Eee PC a few weeks ago (if you don’t, here it is). When the review sample went back, I was as good as my word and bought one, seemingly just before they sold out across the UK. With that in mind, I’ve got several weeks more usage under my belt, and a few more points to add.
Life-sized beer-brewing Bender robot from Futurama
Pedant’s note: How can you have a life-sized model of a cartoon character? Doesn’t their size depend on the size of your telly? That aside, this is genius. It’s a big Bender (out of Futurama) robot, except with beer brewing mechanisms built into his stomach.
Boy given detention for using Firefox in class
Man, the browser wars are getting out of hand. Now teachers are getting involved, handing out detentions for using the wrong application to surf the internetweb. At least, that’s what’s happening at the Big Spring High School in the US. Some poor kid was handed a detention for using Firefox in class. Here’s the teacher’s report:
