A robot war to make your heart bleed: the Pleo gets savaged at Maker Faire
For the queasy-stomached, I would suggest you find another computer monitor to stare at. It’s pretty grim. That deflated yellow and green skin littering the ground in the photo above is actually a Pleo, after a ruckus at the weekend’s Maker Faire in the US.
Take a look below the jump for the video footage of the poor defenseless dino getting savaged by Vicious Verdict, a rival ComBot robot. Be warned – it’s pretty gruesome…
YouTube Hits: Return of the Jedi Ewok Gospel Song
If there’s two things that’ll divide the population, it’s gospel music and Ewoks. I happen to be a big fan of both and so is this gentleman who’s put a track together…
YouTube Hits: To buy GTA IV on the Xbox 360 or PS3, that is the question…
Confused as to whether you should buy Grand Theft Auto IV on the Xbox 360 or PS3? You’re lucky you have a choice in consoles, most only have one, if that!
Still, my household is just as confused, with more arguments breaking out over this issue than whose turn it is to do the dishes that day month. Let this young Australian gamer, in the video above, guide you towards your choice, with his comical homemade video on the pros and cons of the game on each console. Failing…
YouTube Hits: Microsoft internal video shames even the Zune tattoo guy
Now, I love Microsoft probably more than the average tech-fan, and some may even call me a fangirl. But after watch the video above, I’m quite ashamed to be using a Vista laptop right now.
MSFT, you should’ve hired this guy to make your internal Springsteen-parody video…
YouTube Hits: Latest Sony advert, 'Foam City'
Last week we speculated on what the next advert for Sony would look like, with a video set in London being our top pick.
Sadly, Sony didn’t choose the indie London video maker to direct their latest campaign for their Handycam and Cybershot ranges, instead sticking with their tried and tested agency which created the three previous advertisements. This last one, ‘Foam City’, required 16 hours of filming in the centre of Miami, which was filled with 460 million litres of foam, enough to fill an Olympic…
YouTube Hits: Is the G-Dog Japan's new Sony Aibo?
Continuing our obsession with robots here at Tech Digest, this G-Dog is Japan’s second chance at creating a successful dog-robot, after the demise of Sony’s Aibo back in 2006.
Measuring in at 14cm tall and 40cm long, it should be on sale in Japan this July, for around £500, a far cry from the number of notes the Aibo commanded…
Wiimote-controlled KUKA robot can play tennis and stab you if you ace it
Able to lift 1,000kg and with a reach of 3.2m, you could say the KUKA robotic arm is being put to waste when wielding a tennis racquet or sword for an intense Wii session. In the video above, you can see a couple of chaps controlling the KUKA with a Wiimote, which has been hacked with some light pattern recognition so it’d duplicate their arm swings.
The instructions on how to create a Wiimote controlled KUKA are over on their site, but first you’ll need to cough up a fair bit – here’s a second-hand one on eBay for $10k…
YouTube Hits: Katie Lee interviews author Tim Ferriss
Lifehacking. It’s a term you’ve probably heard of, thanks to the Lifehacker blog, but did you know author Tim Ferriss has published a book called ‘The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich’, which shows you how plenty of productivity tips, including how to outsource your work? It’s true, and he spoke to Dollymix Guest Editor Katie Lee recently about it. Take a look…
YouTube Hits: 14 year old kid parodies Fergalicious with 'Mathmaticious'
When I watched this video on Saturday morning, it had just over 10,000 views. Looking now, it’s had close to 800,000 – I think I contributed about 400,000 views to that number in the last few days. I am obsessed.
“A mathematical parody of Fergie’s Fergalicious”, the 14 year old kiddynerdzoid behind the video claims. Watch it. And watch it again. Let’s hope Fergie employs him for her next music video…
YouTube Hits: unofficial Sony Bravia advert, shot in London
We’re a big fan of the Sony Bravia adverts, and it appears a YouTube user Kobayashi is too. The London-based animation director has created it with a budget of next-to-nothing, in the hopes it will attract Sony’s eye.
Keeping the bunny motif of the last (official) video, it shows off some of London’s most famous landmarks….
