Cantor eDeck - casino-based fun/debt in your pocket

Dave Walker Comments (0)

cantor-edeck.jpgWell, back in 2005 I wrote my first post for Tech Digest. And several thousand articles later, this one is my last - the rather low key Cantor eDeck.

And it's a strange beast. On the face of it, this is a pocket casino, offering roulette, blackjack, baccarat, video poker and other popular casino games, plus a few variations courtesy of Cantor. But that's not all. The device is wireless, so you can hook up online and splash the cash should you feel lucky in a quiet moment. Boredom and betting? Sounds a lethal combination to me. Although not as lethal as leaving it in the pub or on the train.

Still in the testing phase, so your pay cheque is safe for now, expect to see it getting the big push before the year is out.

Meninos hard drives - disguise your storage as a piece of domestic rubbish

Dave Walker Comments (0)

meninos_hard_drives.jpgSick of that ugly black/grey box on your desk? Well, Meninos has a solution - disguise it as a piece of consumerist tat.

Actually, the designs are better than that, billing themselves as some kind of modern-day pop art, you can opt for anything from a cigarette or cereal packet to a character from Pulp Fiction or Star Wars. All are acrylic covers for the USB-connected drives, available in sizes from 250 to 500GB.

Prices start at $400.

Homelander - bring the club into your home

Dave Walker Comments (0)

dj_deck.jpgCost of going out a bit much? Or just feeling a little old for getting down with the kids? Well, you could being the club into your own home - with the Homelander.

This high-end bit of DJ furniture is custom-built for your decks (CD or vinyl), with room for the mixer too. Not only that, the high gloss structure also packs in some front LED lights, two power LEDs for the big light show (which is remote controlled or programmable), an air cooling fan and integrated cabling.

The only downside is the superstar DJ wage packet needed to pay for it - 3,295 Euros to you.

Beverly Hills 90210 iPod nano - ironic or just plain rubbish?

Dave Walker Comments (0)

90210ipod.jpgIf you're looking for evidence that TV is better today than it was in years past, watch a re-run of Beverly Hills 90210. If that statement sounds like blasphemy, you are the target market for the tackiest limited edition iPod yet - the Beverly Hills 90210 iPod nano.

Engraved with the images of your favourite characters (with room for your own personal cheesy message too), it offer you the chance to stand out from the crowd - but not really in a good way.

If you want one, you can pick one up at the CBS store for $219 (4GB) or $269 (8GB).

TwinBird DVD Zabady - underwater TV tuner and DVD player

Dave Walker Comments (0)

twinbird.jpgI can think of a few places where watching a film isn't really appropriate - and one of those is one metre underwater. But that's the market that the TwinBird DVD Zabady is going for.

Yes, you can take this under the waves for a maximum of 30 minutes - just enough time for a sitcom rather than a full run-through of Jaws. Once under there, you can access TV on the 7-inch screen (if you can get a signal), watch a DVD or access audio/video/photo files via the SD card slot.

Heading to market in Japan, no price as yet.

The phone is back in pink to promote awareness of breast cancer and with £10 from each phone sale going to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer, making money for a key charity too. Aside from that, it's the same phone, headed up by a 3MP camera, 1GB of storage, a full speed browser and media player.

Navigon 2150 max GPS launches in the UK

Dave Walker Comments (0)

navigon_2150.jpgTaking over from the company's 2110 max is the Navigon 2150 max GPS unit.

New features include an integrated Bluetooth handsfree kit and text-to-speech functionality, which means drivers hear the exact name of the road they should turn into rather than just 'left' or 'right'. There's also a 4.3-inch display, maps for 39 European countries and the option to buy a lifetime subscription to traffic management for a one-off fee.

Available now, it retails for £229.99.
