Top five IFA 2007 stories from Tech Digest
IFA is well and truly over, with most Berlin-bound geeks back in their natural habitats, in our case, Shiny Towers. If you missed our coverage last week, and over the weekend, here are the top five most news-worthy stories. Expect these products to be rolled out over the next few months.
1.) LG’s ‘Design Art’ LCD TVs – two models, the LF75, LB75, with the first model coming in 1080p Full HD and 10,000:1 contrast ratio, and the latter model packing a still-impressive 720p/1080i and 8,000:1 contrast ratio. Three HDMI 1080p inputs and LG’s Intelligent Eye technology which ‘optimises brightness and contrast according to ambient light’ are also included…

Still at IFA, Ashley has a look at the VP-HMX10C HD camcorder from Samsung which was announced in their press conference in Berlin last week. It’s extremely thin and uses flash memory to store footage…
IFA 07: Sharp dancers singing the hilarious Aquos song
Only in Germany could a company get away with something so cheesy as four brightly-clad dancers singing along to a song about a TV range. And only in Germany could the whole audience lap it up, cheering wildly and demanding more…

Boston Acoustics is one of those American brands people have always heard of but are never really sure why. What they don’t realise is that they’re responsible for churning out gorgeous looking speakers capable…

IFA 07: Live-blogging the Sharp press conference
1300 – Everyone files into a huge auditorium to see what Sharp has to offer for this year’s IFA.
1306 – Big graphics are projected onto huge white sheets on the stage, move over Bourne Ultimatum, this show looks incredible. Words flashing up on the screen include, as you’d expect, ‘Sharp’, ‘Aquos’ and ‘LCD TVs’.
1308 – The white sheets drop to reveal an uber-thin LCD TV encased in a massive sheet of glass, stuck on a revolving wheel. The crowd actually gasps – I know! – and some even clap. I must admit, it’s an impressive site, this TV must be one of the thinnest LCDs ever.
1310 – The speaker, Mikio Katayama, announces the new TV which is just a prototype, at 20mm thin on the main display section, 29mm at the thickest part, and weighing less than a bimbo trying to break into Hollywood, at only 25kilos. It has a contrast ratio of 100,000:1, and allegedly has an annual power consumption of just 140kWh, which is 1/2 of the average LCD TV…

Susi, Alex, Chris, Ashley and I have all stormed Berlin, Germany, en masse for three days full of convention centre-trudging, otherwise known as IFA. CEDIA expo 2007: JVC V-series LCD TVs
Yesterday at CEDIA 2007 I grabbed ahold of JVC’s man of the hour, Steven Carter, to discuss their latest range of TVs, the V-series. With two options (the 42″ model being released in July, for £1,500, and the 47″ model – yes, you read that right, a 47″ LCD telly, those crazy kids at JVC are thinking outside of the box, coming in at £2,000 in August), they’re for those large of lounge and deep of pockets…
Top five techy items Tim Henman should buy if he wants to win Wimbledon
Wimbledon has kicked off this week here in rainy London, and whilst wearing my white Ralph Lauren-designed Wimbledon blazer today in support, I thought we’d take a look at what gadgets the man of today, Tim Henman, should be decking himself out with in order to flog everyone and get the famed trophy.
1.) Brando Wii Sports Wiimote extentions – an obvious piece of kit for Henman to splash the cash on in order to improve his game, the tennis peripheral slots onto your Wiimote and gives you that authentic tennis experience. Considering the dismal weather of late, I’d be willing to bet he’d rather practise indoors on Wii Sports than outside in the rain. Poor boy….
