REVIEW: Livescribe Echo smartpen

A significant step up from a trusty old Bic, the Livescribe Echo smartpen takes note taking to a whole new level by allowing you to sync audio to your scribbles and send them all over the web in just a few simple steps. But can it achieve results any more accurate than a fast hand and attentive ear couldn't manage just as well with a humble biro? Read on to find out.

2GB USB stick / post-it note dispenser

usb-postit-note-dispenser.jpg

Just when you think you’ve seen every kind of USB memory stick in the world, another one comes along. This one dispenses post-it notes. Very handy, if you use post-it notes, which unfortunately I don’t.

It’s got two gigabytes of memory built in, with an unspecified number of post-it notes. Not sure how easy they’d be to ‘refill’ either, though I suppose you could just chop a normal pad into strips and stick the bottom one on with glue. Of course it suffers from the same problem as every other USB stick – if you knock it by accident, then you’ve got a very good chance of damaging the port or the stick.

13" White Macbook gets a sneaky upgrade

new-white-macbook.jpg

Bought a Macbook recently? Start kicking yourself, because Apple has just announced a sneaky upgrade to the 13″ white MacBook which pumps up the capabilities of the diminutive, but popular, machine to the standards of its unibody compatriots.

The machine pumps the processor up to a Core 2 Duo with faster 1,066MHz FSB, a doubling of RAM (2GB, rather than one) and a considerably nicer integrated graphics unit. Bluetooth’s upgraded from 2.0 to 2.1, too.

It hasn’t hit the UK store yet, only the US one, but I suspect us Brits will get the same upgrade within a matter of days. In the meantime, if you were planning a purchase, it might be worth waiting a day or two until the UK store updates too. Price is still the same.
