bold-vs-iphone-front.jpg

Apple’s launch of the iPhone 3G yesterday heralded a new change in direction for the company, towards a more business-friendly approach. BlackBerry is predominantly the business user’s handset manufacturer of choice, with their first 3G model, the Bold 9000, squaring up nicely to the iPhone. Take a look at the below comparison of specs between the two models, and let us know in the comments field below which you’d prefer.

iPhone 3G in the UK: New tariffs, free on selected plans, pay and go coming, biz plans

O2 has announced initial pricing details for the iPhone 3G, and it’s all looking good.

Look, there’s a new £30 per month tariff — that’s £5 cheaper than before. It’s pretty stingy on minutes and texts, but if you’re getting the iPhone primarily for surfing, you won’t care.

The 8GB iPhone is FREE on £45 and £75 per month tariffs, or £99 on the £30 and £35 per month ones…

Obituary: The iPod Touch is dead, thanks to the 3G iPhone's £100 pricing

ipod-touch-dead.jpg

Someone was killed during Steve Jobs’s keynotes speech at the WWDC event today. Anyone remember the iPod Touch? He was the little fellow who looked just like an iPhone, but was available in an 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage choice.

You could do almost everything on an iPod Touch that you could do on an iPhone, apart from that one important factor – that it lacked phone capabilities. Still, it was cheaper, with the 8GB option coming in at £199, whereas the 8GB iPhone was originally £269 before Apple chopped £100 off the price, less than two months ago.

Now however, who’d want an iPod Touch, considering Steve Jobs tonight said 8GB iPhones would cost $199, or £100 up front? Sure, there’s still the £30 or so that you have to pay each month for the contract, but most people pay that much for their mobile phone contracts anyway…

First generation 2G iPhone Vs. second generation 3G iPhone

Out with the old, and in with the new, as the saying goes – something Apple has obviously embraced, as they’ve turfed out the first generation iPhone, and replaced it with the 3G iPhone on their site. There’s no mention of the previous model whatsoever, however we luckily knew all the specs anyway, so read on below for a comparison of the two phones…

Dimensions
2G: 115mm high, is 61mm wide and 11.6mm thick, weighs 135g.
3G: 115.5mm high, 62.1mm wide and 12.3mm thick, weighs 133g.

Display
2G: 480 x 320 3.5″ multi-touch display.
3G: 480 x 320 3.5″ multi-touch display.

Storage

2G: 8GB and 16GB.
3G: 8GB and 16GB, with the latter available in both black and white.

Camera
2G: 2.0-megapixel camera.
3G: 2.0-megapixel camera, with geo-tagging and third-party application integration…

WWDC 2008: 3G iPhone 2 to be £100 in UK, on July 11th

3g-iphone-front-view.jpg

Jobs said “these are all signed, sealed and delivered”, so by the end of the year, the 3G iPhone will be available in 70 countries, with Mexico, Canada and countries in South America first, and other countries being added at later dates – Spain, Africa, and Japan included.

The 3G iPhone, on the other hand, will be available from July 11th, at no more than $199 in each country for the 8GB version – that’s £100 here in the UK. The 16GB version will be available in white, for $299, or £150, for us…

WWDC 2008: iPhone 2 announced by Steve Jobs – it has 3G internet, GPS, flush headphone jack…

3g-iphone-black-back.jpg

Steve Jobs just announced the news everyone has been craving since before the first iPhone was even announced – the second generation iPhone will have 3G internet connectivity. My ears hurt with the ringing of everyone clapping at the news at WWDC.

In addition to that major feature, the phone will contain “a flush headphone jack”, with “solid metal buttons, the same gorgeous 3.5″ display, and camera”.

The back of the iPhone is no longer silver, it’s black, and “thinner at the edges, full plastic back”.

In addition to the aforementioned hardware specs, it also features inbuilt GPS, and an extended battery life, of 300 hours on standby, 3G…

Leaked images of iPhone 2 show it's 3G, has video-chat and a Product (Red) version too

iphone2_1(2).jpg

You know you have nerdlinger friends when someone texts you at 8.15 on a Saturday morning, alerting you to leaked iPhone photos. And you know you too are a nerdlinger when you get out of bed, grab your laptop, and actually write about them, even though you’d normally be asleep for hours longer. Thanks for the ruined beauty sleep, Jason!

Still, it’s news that even I can get excited about – leaked iPhone 2 photos which actually look like the real thing. There’s a second camera located on the front for video-calling (or iChat AV as it’s been dubbed), and it appears to come in two colourways – black, and red, just like the Product (Red) iPods that raised money for fighting AIDS. And yes, it IS 3G enabled…

Australian resellers claim they received suspicious boxes from Apple – 3G iPhones?

apple-box-iphone.jpg

Australia hasn’t even had the luxury of selling a legal iPhone yet, but already there are rumours they’ve just received the 3G model, due to some resellers showing photos of mysterious Apple boxes they aren’t allowed to touch until after the WWDC expo next week.

The date in which they can open them is June 10th, next Tuesday – just a day after Steve Jobs is expected to announce the phone. Now, I’m sure some sneaky store-workers have already prised the lids off a box already, so all we can do is sit back and wait for the rumours to swell over the weekend. Or, for dozens of reported injuries by Australian sneaks who got burnt with Apple’s idea of a practical joke….
