Norwegian TV broadcaster puts own series on BitTorrent
BitTorrent and P2P file-sharing is KILLING the music, film and TV industries, right? If this madness doesn’t stop, in ten years time David Letterman and Jonathan Ross will be starving on the streets, and the Eastenders budget will be so meagre that every episode will take place entirely in the Queen Vic’s gent’s loo.
BitTorrent is GOOD for authors says Paulo Coelho
Most of the publicity around online piracy has focused on music and, more recently, movies. E-books are just as pirateable, but there hasn’t been the same level of protest from the publishing industry (they’re more concerned with Google’s plans to scan in books, but that’s another story).
BitTorrent debuts ad-supported live-streaming films & TV, 'Watch Now'
Here’s one for the landlubbin’ pirates amongst us…oh hai, it’s everyone, is it? Everyone’s favourite online property, BitTorrent has just launched a massive ‘Watch Now’ live-streaming section, with over 1,000 films and TV episodes, all for free.
For close to a year…
The Pirate Bay decides against starting up an OiNK-replacing music piracy tracker
The day music piracy ultra-portal OiNK died was a sad day for all fans of nicking free stuff off the internet.
But then everything seemed OK again, when The Pirate Bay announced development of BOiNK to take…
PickyPirate mashes up Metacritic with BitTorrent
Those crafty online pirates, what will they come up with next? While the music and film industries set about taking down the most popular BitTorrent servers, elsewhere new and more innovative services are popping up to take their place. One such is PickyPirate, which mashes up BitTorrent search engines Mininova and The Pirate Bay with Metacritic…
Prince swears purple murder against The Pirate Bay, sues illegal site in three different countries
Having worked his purple magic on YouTube and asked for over 2,000 unauthorised videos to be removed, Prince is now working down his hit list, by targeting The Pirate Bay next.
We heard a few months ago the short purple-clad one had a bee in his Raspberry Beret bonnet about all his music videos being illegally shared on sites such as these, and even Prince-themed products on eBay. Needless to say, he doesn’t just dish out idle threats, that Prince character.
Prince is showing he can walk the walk as well as talk the talk, and has prepared a lawsuit against The Pirate Bay, the renowned…
Want to know about file-sharing? Ask a nine-year-old girl…
Despite the music industry’s crackdown on illegal P2P file-sharing, there’s still a lot of people doing it – and many of them are kids. So why haven’t they been put off by the legal threats? TorrentFreak decided to ask one, a nine year-old girl called ‘Hannah’ (not her real name, and no, that’s not her in the picture).
P2P site, OiNK, shut down by pigs, sorry, police
Oink! Oink! One of the largest sources of illegally-downloaded music, OiNK, has been closed down by the pigs, sorry, British and Dutch police. Oink! Ok, I’ll stop now…
Interpol shut it down in the early hours of this morning, after a chap in Middlesbrough was arrested today on counts of conspiracy to defraud and infringement of copywright law, after leaking 60 massive pre-release albums this year to the members-only site. Due to the popularity of the P2P site, us casual…
Trent Reznor gets even more riled up with music industry, vows to do a Radiohead
My, that Trent Reznor is an awfully angry man. Pretty obvious if you’ve ever heard ‘Burn’ by his band Nine Inch Nails, and if you’ve been following his rants against the music industry recently, where he’s been urging fans to pirate his music rather than actually pay for the ‘overpriced’ CDs themselves.
Reznor has been ranting on the band’s website, and all but said they’re going to follow Radiohead and release their next album exclusively online. With the subject of ‘big news’, he said “Hello everyone. I’ve waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate…
Time to download Heroes, as The Pirate Bay has added four new servers and pimped their datacentre
Ho ho ho and a bottle of rum. Don’t glance at your calendar, it’s not International Talk Like A Pirate Day again, and no, you’re not experiencing a strange Groundhog Day-esque de ja vu, but we are talking pirates. The Pirate Bay, to be exact.
The world’s most popular BitTorrent tracker, based in Sweden, has been down for a few hours today, and, according to Torrent Freak, this is due to the Pirates moving their servers to a new datacentre and adding four more servers to their already-massive 12 they currently run…
