Show your disregard of the global financial crisis with the sapphire-encrusted INCRUDO Phantom
The INCRUDO Phantom is, despite all the jewellery, a phone that has been designed to include a “Man’s character.”
Maker INCRUDO is clearly a bit insane. It says the “man’s character manifests itself in the combination of minimalism and simplicity and maximalism in materials, construction and characteristics of the device.”
While we respect INCRUDO’s excellent invention of the word “maximalism,” we can’t help but…
UPDATED: Nintendo DS to relaunch with a camera and MP3 player
The Nikkei Business Daily reported on Sunday that Nintendo are planning to launch a version of the DS that can take pictures and play music, and here’s the best bit – it’ll apparently be out before the end of the year…
The Leica S2 waterproof professional DSLR. New entry at #1 on our Fantasy Next New Camera Chart
It has what Leica calls a “middle format sensor” that contains a spec-sheet-topping 37.5 megapixel CCD that is 56% larger than traditional full-frame 35mm SLRs. If you understand that sort of thing and are now nodding with enthusiasm, the Leica S2 is the camera for you.
If you have recently signed a new contract earning you £55,000 a week even if you’re not playing due to injury, it is also the camera for you, as we’d imagine a new SLR from Leica is going to cost quite a bit. It certainly looks expensive.
It has a 3″ high-resolution LCD round the back, featuring a 460,000 pixel display so your previews look good, works at “twice the speed of comparable medium-format backs” thanks to its new Maestro image…
Pentax K2000: friendly, entry-level digital SLR for those stepping up from compact cameras
Pentax has announced that its latest camera, the K2000, will be launched in November (in the US at least) for a very respectable $699.95 (about £400).
It features a lightweight, compact body, 10.2 megapixels, 2.7-inch TFT LCD, a gyroscopic mechanism for shake reduction — arguably better than software-based systems — and a host of automatic modes. There’s even a Help button which explains settings: great if you’re on the go and don’t want to carry the manual around with you…
Olympus gets in on the Micro Four Thirds scene with its compact SLR concept
Things are ALL GO on the hot Micro Four Thirds SLR scene right now. Panasonic revealed its Lumix G1 just last week, shrinking the traditional SLR into a very fancy-looking body.
Olympus, Panasonic’s partner in the new system, has different plans. It’s using the shrunken optical internals to create a compact-styled camera that boasts the power and lens connectivity of an SLR. And a lovely little orange faux-leather band. To be honest, we’re only mentioning this because of the leather band.
The unnamed Olympus device is, sadly, just at concept stage at the moment, so there’s a very real risk that that leather detailing will be replaced with a cheaper plastic…
Shiny Video Preview: Second Generation Flip Camcorder
The original Flip camcorder was an awesome budget camcorder for amateur video recorders who don’t need tonnes of features – just something with a big red button that records. In the video above, Lucy checks out the second generation Flip, which has 2GB of internal memory, and records at 640×480 in AVI format…
Sony α900 – a 24.6 megapixel digital SLR
Whopping would be an understatement. Sony have just announced the α900 – a DSLR with more megapixels than the legs on three spiders. It’s also, according to the font of knowledge that is Yahoo! answers, approximately twice the resolution of a 35mm photo. To process images that big quickly enough, it’s got dual “BIONZ” processors onboard.
IFA 2008: Rollei X-8 Sports is the Chuck Norris of cameras
No, actually, it’s not. Because nothing could possibly be as rugged than Chuck Norris. What it does rival is the Ricoh G600. When I say “rival” though, I actually mean “spec slightly worse in every category”. There isn’t any price yet, though, so maybe that’s where it can win out…
Canon EOS 50D DSLR: it's official, and it's looking good
The late bank holiday has done Canon some good, for it’s now officially released details of the new EOS 50D, following last week’s faux pas.
So, to business. The 50D features a newly-designed CMOS sensor delivering a beefy 15.1 megapixels, and promising crisp, ultra-detailed, low-noise images as a result.
Most features you’d expect from a Canon DSLR are here, including a range of auto-focus and metering modes, 30-1/8000 second shutter speed, various white balance settings, 15 shooting modes including fully automatic, creative auto, and fully manual, and ISO from 100-3200, expandable to 12800…
Yang Ying digital camera has onboard storage, LCD viewfinder and inner-peace
According to Wikipedia, the yin and yang are “generalized descriptions of the antitheses or mutual correlations in human perceptions of phenomena in the natural world”- which is, in my opinion, the second best abstract concept to design a point-and-shoot digital camera around (the first being “despair”)…
