Overclock your DS with the XCM Hyper Gear Case
150cc in Mario Kart DS not enough of a challenge for you? How about playing it at nearly double the speed? XCM has created a “Hyper Gear” case that overclocks your poor little DS to either 1.4x or 1.7x its regular speed. You can see the little switch in the bottom right of the case in the picture above.
Of course, overclocking a DS isn’t like overclocking a PC – everything speeds up. Sound, graphics, gameplay, everything. Check out the video over the jump for some idea of what it’ll be like (though the DS in the video isn’t being overclocked by the case). The XCM Hyper Gear will be available in the next few weeks from your favourite DS modding websites…
Man "portablizes" Super Nintendo
It’s a beautiful piece. The cheap case gives it a pleasingly utilitarian early-1990s design appearance, with simplistic buttons that you could easily believe Nintendo would’ve chucked into a handheld SNES – had it bothered to make one back in the day. And look at that chunky power button. Imagine the satisfying click it makes.
The poor guy started the portable SNES project last Christmas and eventually finished it last week. Here’s how it turned out.
The chap used an off-the-shelf plastic case to whack most of the SNES bits in…
Best. PC case mod. Ever: Microwave hacked, now a working computer
I’m considering launching a Tech Digest spin-off site purely for PC case mods, but think I’ve already found the best mod that will ever exist. Yes, even better than that nudie-girl one yesterday, and Chernobyl power plant one from a few weeks back.
Disguised in an old microwave, the inside is full to the brim with the PC’s guts, and the normally-transparent door has been transformed into an actual working monitor. If you look closely enough, you’ll see the food being reheated on the plate is actually the desktop wallpaper, with folders located…
German kiddywink creates best PC mod ever – Chernobyl power plant
I like this youngster’s style, and the finished result has left me with a tongue drooling in desire, however it’s claimed he created this PC case mod due to the Chernobyl map in the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Why not the real thing?
He’s only 16, so wasn’t even born when reactor 4 exploded in 1986 – but his case mod is impeccable, and even opens up to reveal the innards…
Strapya mobile phone-shaped pencil case – even got a screen
Trust the Japanese to go one step further – not just creating a mobile phone-shaped pencil case, but one with an actual screen…
Civilian manila envelope laptop sleeve for all those naked MacBook Airs out there
Following on from the initial buzz of the MacBook air being as thin as two sheets of paper and the ensuing envelope-related laptop sleeves, Civilian have thrown their hat into the ring with AirManila, another take on the classic manila envelope…
Replicate London in a pixel-art eBoy skin for your iPod Nano
I’ve been loving me some pixel-designin’ eBoy for a good few years now, so on happening across this iPod skin from the designers my first thoughts admittedly were ‘ooh, I wonder if I should buy a Nano so I can get a skin?’…
The InterOffice Envelope Sleeve – yet another hilarious and ironic MacBook Air envelope case
So. To recap. Last week we had the Studio Leung MacBook Air case. Before that we had the AirMail Envelope Case and then something from Belkin.
And now there is this – The InterOffice Envelope Sleeve. It’s another help-my-sides-are-bursting amusing take on the Steve Jobs manilla envelope revelation moment, only, brace yourselves, this one has a ZIP.
Xbox 360 Elite laptop – by special commission only
You may well have heard of Ben Heck before – he’s regularly the source of amusement and amazement for gamers across the world, thanks to his love of ripping apart games consoles and rebuilding them in exciting new formats.
Like that thing to the left there. It’s a standard Elite Xbox 360, only transformer-ised into a green laptop, complete with HD LCD screen and keyboard for chatting with fellow clan members about which Halo map you’re going to play tonight…
