Oregon Scientific – the people responsible for making me look like a geographical moron – are at CES to launch a clutch of new products, including some weather monitors that are perfect for weather-obsessed Brits (go on, you know you love talking about the rain). CES 2008: Aquallusion iTube wants to be Lava Lamp 2.0
Aren’t we well shot of lava lamps? They were useless. Students liked them, I suppose. Anyway, Aquallusion is a company happy to cite lava lamps as inspiration for its iTube light, which combines sound, colours and a cool visual effect resembling bubbling water.

I’m bracing myself for 784 iPod docks at CES this year, now that every company and their aunt is making them. Vestalife’s Ladybug at least looks different, with a ladybird design that sees the speakers open up like wings.

Third WowWee bot of the night is Mr Personality, who isn’t as ugly as his name might lead you to believe. Well, that’s if you don’t mind robots with full-colour LCD screens for faces.

You can rely on WowWee to storm CES with a battalion of new robots – tonight, several were on show at the show press preview. Pick of the bunch was Rovio, which the company describes as a ‘Wi-Fi enabled robotic webcam’.
CES 2008: WowWee Alive wild cub toys steal our affections
Nothing makes a man look more manly than cuddling up with a furry robocub, right? Oh. Still, WowWee’s new Alive range is still pretty fun. There’s a lion, a white tiger, a panda and a polar bear in the range, and they were all on show at the CES Unveiled press event tonight.

In addition to pontificating about the future of electronics, hanging out with some very cool guests and indulging in a spot of Xbox gaming Bill Gates has traditionally used his CES opener to unveil new Microsoft gadgets and innovations.
However, if you do a quick where are they now search for many of the CES launched gadgets it becomes clear that getting a plug from Gates at the show is actually the kiss of death. Here are a few products that haven't quite fared as well as Microsoft had hoped.
