CES 2008: Panasonic's 150 inch plasma television
Every year at CES someone attempts to top the previous year's biggest ever telly. Last year the top contender was 108 inches. This year? Panasonic wiped the floor with everyone by showcasing the ultimate in excess with this 150 inch plasma tv. Susi shows us more…
CES 2008: Blu-ray set to kill off UMD as a PSP movie format
I’ve just published the liveblog of the Blu-ray press conference at CES (you can read it here), but one element in particular is worth pulling out. There was talk of a new feature where you’ll be able to put a Blu-ray disc in your PS3, and within seconds, have a copy of the movie ready to transfer to your PSP.
CES 2008: Blu-ray press conference liveblog
It’s safe to say this one could be somewhat triumphant. With rival format HD DVD having seen its CES press conference cancelled, the Blu-ray people could spend the next hour crowing.
CES 2008: Sennheiser debuts Professional headphones for easier listening
Not endorsed by Microsoft, Sennheiser has dropped three new pairs of in-ear headphones, the IE 6, IE 7 and IE 8, part of their ‘Professional’ range. Professional as in, what musicians wear onstage at concerts, not what businessmen wear in conferences. Although I’m betting all the Blu-ray fanboiz were wishing they’d had a pair yesterday when listening to Toshiba’s HD DVD onslaught.
Using dynamic transducers, they cover the entire frequency range with one system, and separate different parts of whatever music you’re listen to, thus eliminating distortion. All three have Kevlar-strenghened cables, and a choice of earbuds to ensure a snug fit…
CES 2008: What kit does a tech blogger need at CES?
We’ve done the post thanking our sponsors earlier on, but speaking as someone who was stupid principled enough to pay for all his own gear, I thought I’d do my own roundup. Hence the photo above, which shows the key tech that’s getting me through CES:
CES 2008: More Samsung HDTVs heading to UK
The last thing we really need is another foot long list of HDTV specs so I’ll keep this brief. Most of Samsung’s latest HDTV range is heading to the UK. The main theme this year is 1080p – 2008 is being geared up to be the year of Full HD and Samsung is aiming to get reduce the price difference between 1080p and 720p sets down to just a £100 leap.
CES 2008: 3DV Systems' ZCam wants to give EyeToy a good punching
ZCam is a prototype technology from Israeli firm 3DV Systems, which does roughly the same thing as Sony's EyeToy gaming camera, but with more features. Specifically, it captures depth, rather than just movements to the side.
CES 2008: Kodak's new digital cameras, including touchscreen EasyShare V1273
You’d be forgiven for turning your nose up at the thought of a Kodak digital camera, but honestly, they usually fair better in reviews than a lot of the other big name brands. Adding to their already volumous collection, there’s the EasyShare V1273, a 12-megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom, and 3″ LCD touchscreen, pictured.
Then, there’s the EasyShare M1033, a 10-megapixel camera with the usual 3x optical zoom plus 3″ LCD screen, an EasyShare…
