Apple releases the chains on iTunes DRM
The final announcement at today’s Macworld 2009 keynote was indeed the hoped for, predicted and downright too long in the coming release of the DRM on iTunes downloads.
iTunes Plus is the name of the format which comes at a 256 kbps…
Macworld 2009: 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro
After boring us senseless with two out of the four of their big announcements, Apple has finally woken us up with the launch of the new 17-inch MacBook Pro at Macwold in San Francisco today.

SHINY VIDEO REVIEW: The 720p HD video shooting Nikon D90
I had a lot of fun with this camera. The Nikon D90 is about as good as it gets for consumer DSLRs- certainly for now, anyway. I had this one for quite a while I got very comfortable with it.
2008: The gadgets we couldn't live without
As the lights go out tonight on 2008, we thought we’d reflect back in the year just gone, and pick a few gadgets that we absolutely, positively, couldn’t live without this year. I’ve contributed a couple, and I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say it was tough to narrow the list down.
I could have nominated my brilliant Acer Aspire One netbook. I could have nominated my beloved Zune 30 MP3 player (and very nearly did). I probably should at least mention my Victorinox WT messenger bag that goes almost everywhere that I do. However, none of those approach the love that I have for the gadgets that made the list.
See those gadgets, and Dan and Gary’s choices, too, by clicking on my beloved N95 below.

No solder hack for the Asus Eee PCs 700 & 701
If you didn’t get the new netbook you wanted for Christmas then listen up because all is far from lost. There’s a lot of Eee PC hacks out there but how about one that will turn an old 700 or 701 into a regular Bluetooth toting, memory and storage-expanded touchscreen lean machine, and all without a single drop of solder?

Powermat – magnetic wireless mass gadget charger (assuming it works)
Something I’m looking forward to grill its manufacturers about at CES is the Powermat wireless gadget charger. It’s not, for me, of particular interest that there are no wires involved – technically speaking, there are – but it’s the idea that you can charge more than one device from just one power source.
From what I can gather, the mat itself plugs into the wall

Rain Man wine decanter – lovely kit for a lovely drop
Sadly, I’ll have drained my father’s vintage wine collection long before this concept decanter ever comes to market, but even if you don’t need to remove sediment from your plonk, the Rain Man is a beautiful thing.

Peanut butter machine – the gift of a guaranteed heart attack long life
If I eat too much peanut butter, it makes me come out in spots – nothing alarming but it’s not pretty either. I think there’s a lot of nut oil going on in there greasing up my skin, so unfortunately, much as I love the stuff, I don’t think this peanut butter making machine is a good idea for me.
As it goes, this device will make a paste either crunchy or smooth…
