iPhone Skateboard

I don’t generally like to use really big images on TD. I’ll always give you the option of bigging them up from thumbnails but I don’t usually like them to dominate the entire page. Probably because I’m a writer and not a photographer.

Anyway, today I give the artist the main stage because this iPhone skate deck…

Panasonic brings HD Blu-ray recording to UK with the DMR-BS850 & BS750

Blu-ray-recorder.jpg

Panasonic launched not one but two dual-tuner Freesat HD Blu-ray PVRs yesterday at their shindig over in Amsterdam, making the DMR-BS850 and BS750 the first of their kind in the UK.

No prices as yet – something pretty hefty, I’d imagine – but in May you can expect a pair of machines that’ll allow you to watch and record satellite content, HD channels and record onto Blu-ray discs

Top 10 tech Oscar winners of all time

gone-with-the-msi-wind2.jpg

The red carpet was awash with make-up, jewelry and false modesty in small hours of this morning as a large troop of Britons waltzed into LA to pick up most of the important Academy Awards. So, on a day like today, it seems appropriate to look back through the history at those honoured with Hollywood’s highest accolade and line up the top 10 greatest Oscar winners of all time – well, the tech version anyway.

Samsung announces the IT100, PL50, PL65 and ES15 affordable compact cameras

Samsung-IT100.JPG

Samsung has announced the release of some medium to low spec compact cameras to ignite the world of digital photography today. I’m not really selling it, am I? No, that’s because these cameras are really only of interest if you happen to be in the market for something distinctly average to unimpressive. If, however, that describes your digital imaging needs, then you’re in luck.

Samsung IT100

First up on this list of trail trudgers is the IT100. Good things to note about this model, as pictured above, include a 28mm lens…

MWC 2009: Universal chargers for all mobile phones by 2012 (except Apple)

cable-mess.jpg

When Duncan was writing up his “Five Announcements that won’t be made at MWC” feature, we had a bit of a laugh at the idea of the mobile phone companies introducing a universal charger. If there had been a number six, it would have made the list.

So, fortunately, we don’t have to look like idiots now that the GSM association has announced that that’s exactly what all the manufacturers are going to do. My mind immediately jumps to a box of cables in my flat and rejoices.

The new charges, which should come as standard with all handsets by 2012…

The smartshoe, shoephone, mobileshoe – it's a phone in your shoe, ok?

shoe-phone.jpg

Here’s something I doubt you’ll see at MWC and probably for a very good reason. There’s not many people who enjoy dropping their phone on the floor ,so any footwear company would be hard pressed to sell the idea of walking on it for several miles a day.

However, a chap by the names of mikeyberman has put together a guide on Instructables of how to make the perfect device for getting your phone into places you shouldn’t…

Google Earth puts Valentine's holiday island firmly on the map

heart-shaped-island.jpg

It all smells rather of some large publicity stunt, in fact, it is a large publicity stunt, of which I’m now a part, but what the hell – Google Earth has made it very clear to the world that the island of Galesnjak off the coast of Croatia is shaped a lot like a heart – or at least a love heart anyway.

The owner of the island, Vlado Juresko, had always had an idea about the dimensions of his 130,000 square yard piece of uninhabited real estate but only got the full picture once inundated with booking requests…
