CES 2009: Samsung's other four digital cameras – the WB500, ST10, ST50 and ES55
As well as four tasty-looking compacts for the lady-blogger’s handbag, Samsung has also revealed a chunkier wide-angle snapper for the man who wants to look like he’s a proper photographer – plus some extremely odd novelties and a 10megapixel £79 job for kids and grandparents.
Samsung has been busy. Here are four more of its camera department’s new designs in a big list, starting with the…
…the WB500, which is Samsung’s first go at doing a mega-zoom camera. This model maxes-out at 10x – and features a wide-angle 24mm lens to battle Panasonic’s extremely popular Lumix range. It has a 10megapixel sensor and can also record movies in HD spec.
Samsung UK has given the WB500 a tentative RRP of £229 and says it’ll be out in the UK from January 2009. Which means soon…
CES 2009: Pentax announces Optio P70 and Optio E70, possibly the most forgettable cameras in history
The rather non-glamorous Pentax has revealed a couple of thoroughly mid-range new digital cameras – the Optio P70 and Optio E70.
The P70, on the left there in the fetching white finish, is the most impressive model, managing 12megapixels with a 4x optical zoom, a 2.7″ LCD monitor round the back and what Pentax calls its “Pixel Track Shake Reduction technology” image stabilisation tool. It’ll also come in red and silver, if you’re mainstream enough that one of the first things you look for when buying a camera is what colour it comes in.
Meanwhile, the E70 (right) is a bit more “entry level” – offering “large control buttons,” a 10megapixel sensor and 3X zoom. Both will be out in the US this February…
SHINY VIDEO REVIEW: The 720p HD video shooting Nikon D90
I had a lot of fun with this camera. The Nikon D90 is about as good as it gets for consumer DSLRs- certainly for now, anyway. I had this one for quite a while I got very comfortable with it.
Limited edition white Pentax K2000 – ask a friend in the States for one
This rather ravishing looking creature is the limited edition white Pentax K2000 which’ll be released in all sorts of hard to reach places in February…
Bottle Cap Tripod: an almost DIY solution for camera owners
Such a simple idea for those times when you’re stuck somewhere with your digital camera but no regular tripod: the Bottle Cap Tripod.
With a standard screw connector at one end, the other end fits any normal water bottle, turning it into an impromptu camera stand.
I wouldn’t feel particularly confident attaching anything much bigger than a light, compact camera to it, even if the bottle was filled with liquid, but it could solve some problems when you just have to get that steady shot…
More details on GE's digital camera splurge – E1055W and A1030 exposed in depth
Last week we revealed the range-topping new GE E1050TW with all its fancy HD features – now here are a couple of mid-range GEs for your less-informed and slightly poorer relatives.
The A1030 (left, red) is capable of recording MP4 movies, does 10megapixels, has a 3x optical and 4.5x digital zoom, features a 2.5″ LCD round the back and, very importantly, takes AA batteries. It is slap-bang in the middle of what you’d expect.
And the E1055W to the right there in Standard Silver offers 10.1megapixels, a 5x optical zoom, image stabilisation, a 3″ LCD viewfinder round the back and what GE says…
Digital Camera of the Hour: GE E1050TW with HDMI output for HD Ready lounge synching
Here’s another marginally different image-capturing box to save your brain from having to do any remembering of what things look like. This one’s called an E1050TW. It is not a particularly romantic or evocative name, although maker GE tells us the TW at the end stands for “Touch and Wide” – because there’s a 3″ touchscreen round the back instead of your usual buttons.
Here’s what the front looks like.
Inside the box there’s a 10.1megapixel sensor, mechanical bits to support a 5x optical zoom and image stabilisation…
Canon EOS 5D Mark II – 21 megapixels, and HD movie capabilities
This is the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, which was announced by Canon this morning. It’s got full 30fps HD 1080p video capture, adding a useful feature to the already highly-specced EOS 5D Mark I. It’s got ISO sensitivity up to 25,600, and can shoot 310 frames at medium quality at 3.9fps…
Canon releases five more digital cameras: two IXUS, three PowerShot
Canon keeps its foot on the gas with today’s launch of five new compact digital cameras, adding two to its IXUS range and three to its PowerShot range.
First up, the IXUS 980 IS features a whopping 14.7 megapixels coupled with 3.7x optical zoom. Full manual control is also offered.
The IXUS 870 IS offers a more modest 10 megapixels, with a 4x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens.
The 980 comes with a 2.5″ PureColor LCD, while the 870 has a three inch LCD.
Both feature image stabilisation, Canon’s new DIGIC 4 processor that offers a range of features including face detection and image blur correction, and 30fps VGA movie mode…
Casio intros new ELIXIM EX-FH20 digital camera
Casio has announced the latest digital camera in its burgeoning EXILIM range. The EX-FH20 boasts some pretty impressive credentials, including 9.1 megapixel sensor, 26mm equivalent wide-angle lens with 20x optical zoom, CMOS shift anti-shake function, and some nifty burst shooting modes.
If you’re feeling the need to practice your paparazzi skills, the EX-FH20 could be for you. It can take seven megapixel still images at up to 40 frames per second, and can even capture the action before the shutter button is pressed. That means if you’re not completely on the ball, you can still capture that candid moment…
