Bill Gates – "using the download page to download something was not something they anticipated"
This fantastic email comes from the archives of Microsoft, and was originally turned over to the authorities during the nasty anti-trust investigation.
In it, Bill releases his epic frustration at the process of trying to download Windows Movie Maker. It’s nice to know that Bill counts the seconds Microsoft web pages take to load and also reboots his PC “every night.” Here are a few quotes – the full email’s after…

Yahoo! has announced the introduction of its ymail.com domain, which will allow a whole new range of email addresses to be registered. From tomorrow, new and existing users can join in the bun fight and try to grab a more memorable email address, as well as still having access to unlimited storage, integrated Instant Messaging, spam protection, and an ID that works across all of Yahoo!’s other services…
No phones on planes please, we're British, survey finds
A couple of recent surveys suggest that Brits are dead set against allowing mobile phone calls on flights.
Yahoo!’s survey suggested 87% would like voice calls to stay banned on flights, though nearly half thought some kind of email / Internet access would be useful, and presumably less intrusive than being stuck in a big tin can with a load of incessant chatterboxes…
Pre-internet technology at its finest: ThinkGeek's paper emails
Do you remember the days before email? I personally used carrier pigeons, and then later upgraded to a small man on a penny farthing, what did form of communication did you employ?
ThinkGeek is offering some pre-internet technology, called ‘paper email’. It’s a funny thing, you actually write emails with something called a biro using your hand – can you imagine! It might take me a few days to learn the OS for that system.
It’s $3.99 for 50 paper emails, which is an awful lot – heck, I only pay £10 a month for my broadband, and send thousands of emails for that…
Seattle Spam King faces 26 year sentence
Spam… annoying isn’t it? Not quite as annoying as spending 26 years in the slammer though I’ll bet. That’s what Seattle man Robert Soloway, 28, faces after pleading guilty to electronic mail fraud, ordinary mail fraud, and not filing a tax return three years ago. The latter part doesn’t seem so exciting but this was believed to be when Soloway made over $300,000 from his nefarious internet practices.

Top 10 all-new spam email subject headings
Apparently 95% of all email sent is spam, the experts say. Even my Gmail spam folder is creaking under the strain, but while going through it rescuing mis-filed CES press releases, at least there’s some spam emails that gave me a laugh. Here they are. And yes, sorry, many of them are genital-related.
Gmail launching free IMAP email for all users
Google has today announced that it will be rolling out free IMAP email to all its Gmail users. For the uninitiated, IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is generally considered the best way to synchronise an email account across multiple devices….
ViaPost's big idea for snail mail: 'Post-over-Internet Protocol'
Imagine if you could ditch boring old letters in favour of something more electronic? Y’know, using your computer to send documents to other people, without having to lick a stamp and find the nearest postbox. If only someone could invent such a technology. They could call it… email!
Oh, hang on…
Okay, so it’s tempting to snort at ViaPost, a UK startup that’s seemingly reinventing the e-wheel with its promises to ‘post’ mail over the internet using (in their words) ‘Post-over-Internet Protocol’.
