With rocketing energy prices and the pressure to be “green” in everything you do, I thought it’d be fun – and hopefully educational – to start a series of videos looking at ways we can all be more energy efficient around our homes and offices.
To kick thinks off, I take a look as the massive (white) elephant in the room – the always-on electricity sponge that is the household refrigerator. Do we really need access to cold cheese 24 hours a day? Or is it just a conspiracy by the electricity companies to keep their shareholders happy?

Philips launch Asimpleswitch.com consumer campaign: can two billion people reduce energy consumption?
Philips has today announced a global campaign aimed at encouraging consumers to reduce the amount of energy they use at home, primarily through their use of energy efficient lighting.
They have partnered with The Alliance for Climate Protection and the global Live Earth concerts taking place on Saturday 7th July, and hope to inspire over two billion people to commit to taking simple steps to becoming more energy efficient.
Nokia first mobile phone maker to introduce energy saving alerts to handsets
Nokia has announced that it has begun to build in alerts to its mobile phone handsets encouraging people to unplug the charger unit from the mains once their phone has fully charged.
The Nokia 1200, Nokia 1208, and Nokia 1650 will be the first handsets to get the environmentally-friendly treatment, with the entire Nokia product range following in due course.
