'Pirates of the Amazon' Firefox extension will worry online retailers
An enterprising group of young coders have developed a Firefox add-on which does something rather worrying – adds ‘Download 4 Free’ buttons to Amazon pages. When you click the button, it’ll work out what product you’re looking for, and take you to a page on the Pirate Bay that’ll let you download it for free.
It works for CDs, DVDs, games, books and any other product that can be converted to a digital format. The team behind it claim they want the extension to “be a counterpart to the current models of media distribution”, and to “redistribute the wealth”. I’m not sure that’ll wash before a judge, to be honest.
Max out your Flash gaming habit with Flash Game Maximizer
Are you tired of squinting at a tiny screen for your lunchtime Desktop Tower Defence habit? Well, squint no longer with the Flash Game Maximizer Firefox add-on. Although some games have a built-in ‘fullscreen’ option, many don’t, and this add-on lets you pump any which don’t up to full 1920×1280, or whatever massive resolution you’re running in.
The add-on’s still ‘experimental’, so you’ll need to log in to Firefox’s add-ons site to download it. When installed, you get a little box in the bottom right hand corner. When it detects flash, it’ll turn yellow, and you can then click it to go fullscreen. Unfortunately it will reset any game currently in progress, so be careful of that. Still, it’s a nice way of avoiding those annoying ads all around the game, and increasing the sense of immersion.

Firefox hits 20% market share
I feel a bit guilty. I’ve almost completely abandoned my former favourite browser – Firefox – in favour of Google’s zippity-quick Chrome browser. I love Firefox, but the little tiny touches in Chrome make it a joy to use compared to the relative clunkiness that is Firefox 3. Still, in a world where most people are still using Internet Explorer, it should be celebrated that 1 in 5 people on the internet are now using Firefox for their surfing needs.
The report, from Net Applications, shows Firefox with a 20% market share for two out of four weeks in October. Firefox didn’t have a major release then, so it’s doubly impressive that it’s still building converts across the world. New features are constantly announced, including a private browsing mode (dubbed ‘porn mode’ by some) in a forthcoming 3.1 update.

OPINION: Still searching for reasons to switch to Google Chrome
Yesterday – and this is not a joke about how sad my life is, it’s the honest-to-Betsy truth – I decided to make the switch and start using Google Chrome as my default browser.
I’d decided the night before, in fact. I was, sadly, really quite excited about the prospect of turning over a new leaf or, to update the phrase, starting a new session. Doing a fresh install of my life and switching from Firefox to Chrome.
I like Chrome. It works, it’s already imported…
WHY OH WHY OH WHY would anyone put a Firefox theme on Google Chrome?
Imagine. Imagine you have already achieved all there is to achieve. Done everything. Seen everything. Been everywhere and put your winkie into every possible orifice known to man, and a few only known to the more attractive animal species (I’m looking at you, you sexy zebra).
What’s left? What one task is the very last task a man should do before dying?

QUIZ: Which browser are you?
In the grand old tradition of the internet, and given that Google’s new Chrome browser appears to be pretty much all the news that’s out there today, I thought we could have a good old fashioned quiz. It’s simple – answer each question and then at the end it’ll tell you which browser matches your personality…
