Rumour: Hulu to be offered on Xbox 360
Could Hulu, the mega-popular VoD service be coming to an Xbox near you? Maybe, if you live in the US.
After Microsoft and BSkyB announced they would be teaming up to offer Sky content on Xbox 360s in the UK, murmurs that a similar service might appear stateside with NewsCorp’s US based VoD being offered on US Xboxs, although nothing official has been announced.
However if you live on the right side of the Atlantic is may be some time yet before you see Hulu on your Microsoft console, although plans to bring Hulu and its wealth of American content to British viewers are afoot.
The proposed service in the UK would pick up the baton from the VoD none-starter that was Kangaroo. Sky opposed the service which would have seen the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 offering content on one online platform. But with Hulu the potential for a single consolidated UK VoD service looks oddly probable, while also offering about 125 days of US content.
But, if and when Hulu does come to the UK, it’ll surely be a while till it finds its way to your 360.

Macworld 2008: Digital Copy for iTunes makes DVDs iPod-friendly
Apple and Twentieth Century Fox used Steve Jobs’ Macworld 2008 keynote to announce a new technology called Digital Copy for iTunes. In short, when you buy a compatible DVD, you’ll get a free digital copy of the film, which can be transferred to your iTunes library, and from there played on your PC or Mac, or transferred to an iPod or iPhone.
Paramount and Dreamworks go exclusively HD DVD: Disney, Fox, MGM try hitting back for Blu-ray
Two Hollywood studios who had previously been supporting both Blu-ray and HD DVD high definition disc formats yesterday announced that they’ll support HD DVD exclusively from now on.
The decision was made based on “extensive evaluation” of the current market offerings, plumping for HD DVD because of its “market-ready technology” and lower manufacturing costs.
CEO of Paramount Pictures, Brad Grey, said that this decision by the two studios would bring a critical mass of current box office hits to consumers, with a line-up perfect for HD DVD.
Though no other studio has swapped format, Disney, Twentieth Century Fox, and MGM, all reaffirmed their commitment to Blu-ray, promising many more titles with greater interactivity — something that the format still lags behind HD DVD on thanks to technical limitations of the original Blu-ray specification.
