Englishman develops 60,000 volt plasma arc loudspeaker
Reported simply as “Richard from England”, one man has built his own plasma speaker, which uses tungsten-tipped electrodes and 60,000 volts of electricity to produce a large plasma arc.
A by-product of plasma arcs is ozone, which can be deadly in large quantities, but Richard reckons that the prototype produces none at all.
Klimatic Base 1 AirWater Machine: Extract water from the stinky air around you
The concept is good, but I’ve gone and spoilt it by talking about stinky air. The Klimatic Base 1 AirWater Machine is a water cooler with a difference – instead of having to plumb it in or lug water bottles around, it can generate up to 20 litres of water every day straight out of the air.
It’s fairly obvious that air contains water, and this machine takes advantage of that. Really, it’s a glorified dehumidifier, but as it’s for human consumption, it goes through several filtering processes, including an active carbon filter and a UV light chamber, to get rid of solids, oxygenates, odour, and bacteria.
Then it’s yours for the drinking. Whoopee!
Smokin' in the rain under the Smoker's Umbrella
With the ban on smoking indoors chasing determined puffers outdoors in all weathers, the appeal of this brolly can’t be denied. Not only will you be devastatingly popular as a rain-shelter, the clip-on ashtray and tasteful “smoking song” titles make for great conversation starters. *waggles eyebrows*

LINDY launches small, stylish KVM switch for dual computer users
In my mind, KVM switches were always the domain of the sysadmins in the IT department who had two PCs on the go but only enough room on their desk for one keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
Now, though, dual computer use is becoming popular at home, too, and desk space is often just as precious. Enter LINDY’s KVM switch, a modern, compact switch that allows any Mac or PC combo to be used with a single keyboard and mouse, together with a DVI monitor connection…

Maplin intros virtual laser keyboard, type on any flat surface
Maplin has announced the availability of its Bluetooth Laser Key Projection Keyboard, a gadget that will project a keyboard onto any flat, non-reflective surface and allow you to type. It works by optically tracking finger movements, and incorporates both keyboard and mouse functions.
Maplin claims that it’s comfortable to use, and reduces the wrist strain associated with using a standard keyboard. The keys are also projected larger, which is supposed to assist faster, more accurate typing.
Salubrion Enso Clock: meditative timepiece
The Salubrion Enso Clock could be great for anyone who finds time to meditate or practice yoga, though I expect it could also be used in any situation where you want to time something on an alarm without being blasted…
