Medion launches GoPal P4425 premium sat-nav
In September last year we reported on the GoPal P4425 and said that it would be coming in November priced at £299.99
It looks as if things may have been a little delayed, as Medion has announced that the unit is now available for £249.99.
It features the GoPal 4.0 navigation software, a slim (124 x 81 x 17mm) design, street level Navteq maps for the UK and Europe, up-to-date traffic information, GPS-based speed limit warnings, and FM transmitter for playing back either the voice guidance, or MP3 files, through a vehicle’s radio system.
MWC 2008: New Nokia 6210 Navigator and 6220 classic handsets offer advanced navigation and multimedia functions
Nokia has announced two new handsets boasting a collection of advanced navigation and multimedia features. Click on any of the images for higher resolution shots.
The Nokia 6210 Navigator is the company’s first phone to incorporate GPS with an integrated compass, allowing for a much more advanced navigation service for pedestrian use. Bundled with the newly announced Nokia Maps 2.0, the phone utilises an accelerometer (yes, made popular by that other phone) which should allow for accurate guidance based on changes in the user’s orientation. Mind you, I wonder if you’ll have to employ a silly walk in order to ensure that it always works?
O2 unveils XDA Orbit 2 GPS smartphone
O2 has taken the wrappers off its new Xda Orbit 2 smartphone, which runs Windows Mobile 6 and comes with built-in GPS and the CoPilot Live 7 satnav software preloaded.
nüvifone: Garmin's first mobile phone with web browser and navigation
Garmin has announced that it’s launching its first mobile phone. The nüvifone is a handset which incorporates a web browser and a personal satellite navigation system.
Garmin are certainly no stranger to GPS navigation devices, but what else are they bringing to this crowded market?
Well, it’s hopped on the iPhone bandwagon by offering a 3.5-inch touchscreen, though to be fair, Garmin has been making touchscreen navigation devices for some time, and very good they are too.
SCIENTISTS – "We are all doomed" as the Sun gets ready to EXPLODE
That headline’s perhaps a bit dramatic. That’s not really what the weather-watchers at The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said at all.
The point is this – our Sun appears to be going into a new cycle of sunspot activity, which could, possibly, maybe if it goes “2 da Xtreme,” interfere with all the cool electric stuff we so dearly rely upon.
The solar breakout could lead to mobile networks breaking, GPS systems crashing and the power grids…
CES 2008: Sony takes the lid off a new set of sat-navs
We haven’t seen a lot in the way of Sat Navs here at CES yet, but rest assured they’re lurking out there in their thousands. Yesterday, Sony did spill the beans on a couple of new models heading to North America early this year. The NV-U73T and NV-U83T measure in at 4.3” and 4.8” respectively; however each is now just 0.75 inches thick, which is a pretty sensible acknowledgement of the fact that if you actually want to keep your sat nav in your possession for longer than twenty minutes, you’re going to have to carry it with you when you park your car.
TG Sambo's next-gen satnav with alcohol sensor
No doubt alarm bells and sirens are going off all over the place in that demonstration booth right now, judging by the amount of drunken nudity going on in that photo.
The booze-sensing TG Sambo device is called the TN1000SDT all you model number fetishists will be pleased to hear, and comes under the company’s FAVICON umbrella…
