Akhter Computers launch PC which uses less energy than a lightbulb
The world of technology isn’t exactly known for environmental friendliness. Greenpeace regularly rate a bunch of tech companies on their website and no-one is currently scoring higher than 5.1/10. Some companies score extremely poorly. Nintendo score just 0.8/10.
I’m a big fan of green tech. I studied Meteorology at University, and that came with a bunch of climate change and renewable energy classes. Both taught me a lot about what we really should be doing with our planet. Unfortunately, I also really like having new shiny gadgets full of pollutants and toxic substances. That internal conflict makes me sad sometimes, but I brightened up considerably when I saw the LoCO2PC…
Ikea to sell solar panels. Some assembly required?
IKEA must be feeling a bit guilty about cutting down all of those trees to manufacture flat-pack furniture, as they’re pouring €50m into ‘GreenTech’ projects and will be selling solar panels, water conservation and purification devices and “alternative light sources”…
Sennheiser headphones aid carbon-neutral world record attempt
Okay, I confess – I actually just wanted to put a picture of this boat in here. This is what Batman would drive (sail?) if he was fighting climate change as well as crime.
Japan gets three new Eee PC colours – 4G XP model now comes in pink, green and blue
Of course, it’s not just “pink,” “green” and “blue”, though. That would be boring. That would be too easy, too predictable. They need SPECIAL NAMES! The new Japanese XP-packing Eee comes in “Sky Blue,” “Rush Green” and “Brush Pink.”
Here is the Sky Blue variant. It’s a little flash of summer to brighten up your afternoon. I have drawn in the Sun myself, for extra summer realism.
Sky Blue we understand. It’s blue. Like the sky is occasionally. Rush Green we also sort of understand, as, presumably, Asus means it’s as green as some rushes.
But Brush Pink? The phrase “as pink as a brush” doesn’t ring any bells…
Dell shows off their sexy green desktop PC – phwroar!
It’s not often you hear the words ‘desktop PC’ and ‘sexy’ side by side, unless you’re referring to an iMac, but by gosh – look at this Dell!
And it’s not often you hear ‘Dell’ and ‘sexy’ said next to each other, either. Want more to like about it? Well for starters, it consumes 70% less energy than the average desktop PC, with the mini tower being 81% smaller to boot, as well. Shipped in recycled…
Meet the British version of the Tesla Roadster: the Lightning GT sports car
We’ve been raving on about the Tesla Roadster in recent months, all the while unaware the Lightning GT was bobbing around on the surface as well.
British made, the luxury sports car is actually packing a whole heap of electric-powered goodness under the hood, including NanoSafe technology, which enables the batteries to hold 85% life after…
Nokia signs up with WWF and promises energy savings
Nokia has been shouting loud in recent months about its eco-friendly credentials, and its latest initiative looks set to win it more fans in the green movement. It’s joined the WWF’s Climate Savers scheme, and promised a raft of energy-saving improvements in years to come.
Fujitsu Siemens claims 25% of Brits will have a green Christmas this year. Hands up?
Sent through on the interwires today was a hopeful little story about how 25% of us British folk are going to attempt a green tech Christmas.
It’s actually come via Fujitsu Siemens Computers, who has recently made concerted efforts to become ‘eco-friendly’, with examples such as their Scaleo PC Green Edition laptop impressing those with environmentally-friendly consciences. Get the drift? Fujitsu…
Toshiba aims on saving the environment with their Carbon Zero offset scheme
A few weeks back I criticised Sony for donating just 1% of the profits made on their Vaio FZ Graphic Splash Eco Edition laptops to green charities, of which I got lampooned by a reader for doing so. He probably thought I am a Microsoft/Toshiba/HD-DVD fangirl, which is obviously why I spoke negatively of Sony (typical Sony fanboy mentality).
Well, admittedly I am the aforementioned fangirl, but had it been any company, I still would’ve pulled them up on being stingy. And I’m going to prove so, by slagging Toshiba off for just the same reasons.
From today, Tosh is now offering customers the option to offset the carbon dioxide produced when making their laptops, by asking for £1.18 which will go…
