Guitar Hero & Rock Band learn to make beautiful music together

In the 21st century, owning one plastic guitar to play videogames with is an acceptable thing for a person to do. Owning two though? That’s when the neighbours start whispering about you being a bit weird and having delusions of grandeur about being a Tom Morello.

There is some good news though if you do think that you’re Tom Morello: Microsoft has followed Sony’s lead and has announced that the instruments in the next generation of rhythm games – Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution – are all going to be cross compatible with each other…

I try not to let a day go past without a mention of either Guitar Hero or Rock Band and today is once again the turn of the latter as Harmonix reveals the full 84-song strong track list for the forthcoming Rock Band 2.

We already knew about one or two treats in the form of the “Ace of Spades” and “Give it Away”…

Vivendi and Activision merger is official; bow to your new gaming overlord, Activision Blizzard

Following shareholder consent and a nod of approval from the European Commission, the planned merger between video games publishers Activision and Vivendi is now go. The new corporate behemoth is going by the name Activision Blizzard, chosen for Vivendi’s Blizzard Entertainment subsidiary which is responsible for a little indie outfit called World of Warcraft.

Guitar Hero: On Tour sells 300k in first week after US launch, enters Activision top five

Activision’s latest in the Guitar Hero series — Guitar Hero: On Tour — has sold 300,000 copies in its first week of release in the US, putting it in the company’s top five best-selling launch titles.

Mike Griffith, president and CEO, Activision Publishing, was suitably gushy about the whole thing, saying “Guitar Hero is one of the most successful entertainment properties and continues to push the boundaries of innovation with Guitar Hero: On Tour.”…
