CES 2009: Samsung Luxia LED TV range – 1.6" thick including wall mount
The product that Samsung seems most proud of at CES 2009 is their low power, super thin Luxia range of LED TVs. The 8000, 7000, and, yes, 6000 thousand models sit between 44″ and 55″ on the diagonal and use 40% less power than normal flat screen TVs because of the use of low power LEDs…
CES 2009: Toshiba stick to what they do best – improvements to LCDs for the Toshiba Regza range
No one was expecting any particularly big shakes form Toshiba at CES 2009 and the fact that their main announcement was a set off TV’s with the same name prefixed by “New” doesn’t help to impress. To be fair to the self proclaimed leaders in innovation, their New Regza LCD TVs may not be record breakers but they do smack of very high quality…

Kodak unveils Z980 Megazoom and Zx1 mini-camcorder
Okay, ladies and gentlemen. Line up, please. Kids at the front. We’re going to take a look at a couple of new products that Kodak has dropped on us. On your left, you’ve got the Z980 entry-level point-and-shoot, and on your right is the Zx1 weatherproof mini camcorder. Which shall we look at first? The Z980? Okay.
The Z980 is a fairly basic point-and-shoot, with a few notable exceptions. First, you’ve got a generous 24X zoom, which should let you zero in from a safe distance on that girl down the road who you’ve got a crush on, but who just doesn’t seem to notice your existence.
YouTube goes full HD at last?
Looks like YouTube has finally switched on full HD – at least for videos uploaded in high-definition. Going to the site now, and tracking down a video recorded in high-definition, like this one, for example, will give you a “Watch in HD” in the bottom-right corner of the video display.
The results are spectacular. Compare Hilary Duff in normal YouTube video quality, with HD, here. It’s jaw-droppingly impressive, especially when viewed fullscreen. As soon as we can, we’ll start uploading our review vids in HD, so you can get a better look at the gadgets we get sent.

Acer intros S1200 HD-capable video projector
Acer may not be the first name you think of when it comes to home cinema, but for a bit of business use and some sneaky Wii gaming, the S1200 could be a decent bit of kit.
This DLP-based projector features Acer’s ColorBoost II technology for enhanced colours and picture quality, and has a brightness of 2,500 ANSI lumens and 2,000:1 contrast ratio. It can also push out up to 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, so it won’t do a terrible job of high definition content…
New Doctor Who hitting iTunes – one series a week popping up during December
Doctor Who, a show which chronicles the increasingly camp adventures of a time travelling man who gets his clothes from a Help The Aged sale rack and solves everything from interplanetary war to tooth decay by shouting while pointing a screwdriver at a broken numeric keypad, is coming to iTunes.
BBC worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC that’s allowed to sell things for money, is dumping every episode of the new Who on Apple’s shopping system. Episodes from the first series of the modern Who should be ready for buying and downloading today…
Keep your porn more hidden than ever with Lenovo's 128-bit encrypted ThinkPad USB Portable Secure HD
We’re sure there are plenty of uses for external hard drives other than using them as hiding places for pornography. Like, er, as a back up for treasured family photos. 320GB of treasured family photographs.
If you have need for a large chunk of external memory and need it safely locked away behind a 128-bit virtual wall (then hidden in the loft or underneath a floorboard until you’ve got the house to yourself), Lenovo has it covered with its ThinkPad USB Portable Secure Hard Drive – complete with onboard…
AMD releases the ATI Radeon HD 4830 – mid-range performance at a mid-range price
The mid-range of graphics cards sells well. To consumers it represents that sweet spot between getting awful gaming performance and paying through the nose for a bit of silicon. NVidia’s Geforce cards have done rather well out of that market in recent years, but ATI aren’t letting them get away with it – they’ve given us the HD 4830…
