Sony working on "Annihilation Assisted Upconversion" – bendable OLED screens
OLED development race winner Sony has announced its plans to start making OLEDs less than 1mm thick – that are flexible enough to be bent and wrapped around angles.
This’ll come in handy for when you need to… bend a screen. Or, these thin, semi-transparent OLEDs could be piled on top of each other to make 3D displays, used as HUDs in the windscreens of expensive cars, or even used as a way for Sony to carry on charging us lots of money for new TVs that aren’t particularly different from our existing TVs…

Canon releases five more digital cameras: two IXUS, three PowerShot
Canon keeps its foot on the gas with today’s launch of five new compact digital cameras, adding two to its IXUS range and three to its PowerShot range.
First up, the IXUS 980 IS features a whopping 14.7 megapixels coupled with 3.7x optical zoom. Full manual control is also offered.
The IXUS 870 IS offers a more modest 10 megapixels, with a 4x optical zoom, 28mm wide-angle lens.
The 980 comes with a 2.5″ PureColor LCD, while the 870 has a three inch LCD.
Both feature image stabilisation, Canon’s new DIGIC 4 processor that offers a range of features including face detection and image blur correction, and 30fps VGA movie mode…
InFocus debuts affordable X9 720p DLP projector
InFocus has announced its latest projector, the X9, offering high definition projection at a distinctly budget price.
Thanks to the fact that it’s a 720p projector, rather than offering 1080p high definition, it comes in at a lower price point. There’s no skimping on quality, though, as it uses Texas Instruments’ DLP technology with BrilliantColor, and offers a 2,500:1 contrast ratio, 1,800 lumens brightness, and HDMI with DeepColor support…
Optoma EW330 – Smallest widescreen projector in the world… EVER!
This is the Optoma EW330, which I had the pleasure of seeing in the flesh (or, I suppose, in the plastic) this morning. Although it’s tiny (the smallest widescreen projector in the world, for the moment), it’s remarkably powerful, throwing 2200 Lumens out, which should be more than enough to see clearly in a well-lit environment like an office or a meeting room.
Panasonic rumoured to be producing a 40" OLED TV. Expect the Joneses across the street to retaliate soon.
If you had £467million, what would you do with it? Travel? See the world? Buy yourself a small country? Maybe even give some of it to poor people?
Panasonic, as it happens, does actually have that sort of money, but has opted to stay in instead, and spend the money on a bigger telly…
