Pure launches DAB Sirocco 150 dock/radio
Strapping an iPod dock to your audioware has been a no-branier for a little while but getting Apple to certify your product as “Works with iPhone” is a good bit of one-upmanship from Pure. Ladies, gentlemen and DAB freaks, meet the Sirocco 150 mini-system designed with digital music in mind.
It’s got SD and USB slots, as well as the dock, for playback of MP3 and WMV files. No specific mention of AACs, so I can only assume that that’s through pod/phone only action. Naturally, it takes CDs too and, of course, there’s DAB provided you can actually pick anything up where you live.
The unit offers 25 Watts RMS and each speaker has a 4″ mid bass and a 1.5″ tweeters. It’s out in June for £149.99 and, whatever you feelings may be about compressed music files and digital radio, you have to admit the Pure Sirocco 150 hits aesthetically.
Not sure why they left the dock as an external plug in seeing as it’s a main feature. Probably something to do with internal space in the main box. How’s that for some benefit of the doubt?
Naim launches all-in-one NaimUniti home entertainment machine
UK audio manufacture gods Naim is taking a step into the unknown this morning with the launch of their first all-in-one unit. The NaimUniti comprises an integrated amplifier, CD player, DAB/FM tuner, internet radio player, iPod & MP3 dock, digital to analogue converter, USB & network-stored music file player and network streamer. Kitchen sink not included.
You get 10 inputs with 50-watt-per-channel amplifier action and the idea is that it sits as your all purpose box in pride of place in your living. Under the telly springs to mind. You can play music from USB, stream media over your network and you can start plugging in your satellite box, DVD player and games console too.
It’s available now for a pretty reasonable £1995 with the n-link iPod connector cable for another £95. While you’ve got your wallet out, Naim also recommends a pair of £770 Naim n-SAT speakers as the perfect accompaniment.

Eclipse shows off TD712zMK2 high-end speakers
Eclipse has shown off a second version of its TD712z speakers, conveniently titled TD712zMK2. There are a heap of specifications that will boggle the mind, but the highlights are that these steel, zinc, aluminium and composite constructed speakers feature a highly advanced single 12cm Time Domain drive unit, a redesigned damping system, more powerful motor system and ultra-efficient high-power magnet structure.
The aim is a pure, powerful sound — and at £5,000 a pair and with each speaker weighing in at 25kg you’d expect some serious audio goodness.
