Onkyo launches entry-level home cinema system and upscaling DVD player

Onkyo has announced two new bits of kit for the home cinema buff on a bit of a budget.

The HT-S5105 is a complete 5.1-channel home cinema system offering 5 x 130W output plus a 90W subwoofer, and much of the technology found on more expensive Onkyo products, but for just £350.

It comes with the receiver and five magnetically-shielded speakers and the subwoofer, and features Audyssey microphone-based set-up system and EQ which should allow it to adapt the sound to whatever room it’s placed in, with very little effort on the part of the listener…

Now that the dramatic climax to the HD format war is past, Toshiba is starting to pick up the pieces. Naturally, it’s expected to post some big losses after HD DVD’s failed campaign against Blu-ray and the Nikkei Business Daily reckons it can put a figure on just how much it all comes too. A slew of new flat-screens from Panasonic have been announced in the past 24 hours, with a bunch of Plasmas being the first port of call.

Let’s get the most exciting news over with first – the manufacturer has announced their first 46″ model, alongside three new model series, the PZ85, PZ80 and PX80.
