Chinese researchers develop carbon nanotube speakers
What’s “tens” of nanometres thin, contains no moving parts, and blasts out Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” all day long? Carbon nanotube speakers developed by researchers at China’s Tsinghua University, that’s what.
FANTASY GADGETS MADE REAL: Scientists prepare cloaking devices for consumers
A fully cloaked shirt? A fully cloaked pair of trousers? A fully cloaked balaclava and glove set so even your head and hands remain invisible?
That’s the dream hunting (I MEAN STALKING) scenario about to be made real, thanks to two teams at the University of California that are both getting close to making invisible fabrics. Team A has developed a material that uses a “fishnet of metal layers” to reverse light, while Team B’s uses minuscule wires to carry light around…
Sony adds to "invisible home cinema" range: RHT-G900 and G1500
Perhaps Sony’s use of the word “invisible” is the reason why it was so difficult to find a product image of these two new home cinema sound racks, adding to the RHT Series. Pictured is the GHT-800 from last year, which I’m hoping is similar looking. If not, I’m sorry.
Aimed at those with a flat screen telly who don’t want a proper surround sound system, Sony have packed all the audio stuff — processing, amplification, and speakers — into the TV and component stand…
Scientists invent invisible keyboards. Can't they focus on cloaks?
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in the US have developed something called the Relative Keyboard, which is (kinda) an invisible keyboard. At least, you type on a blank touchscreen, and the software figures out what you meant to type by measuring the relative distance between your keystrokes.
