Rolling Stones get DRM-free satisfaction with 7digital
Online music store 7digital has announced something of a coup: it’s selling more than 20 Rolling Stones albums as DRM-free 320kbps MP3 files for £5.49 per album. I repeat: £5.49 per album. And it includes all the classics (hello, Exile On Main Street and Sticky Fingers), not just their newer stuff and live compilations.

Opinion: Welcome to widget world, Apple. What took you so long?
Hurrah for Apple! No, this isn’t another paen to the iPhone posted from Steve Jobs’ lower colon. I’m just excited about the fact that Apple has thrown its hat into the Web 2.0 bandwagon (gotta love them mixed metaphors) with the launch of My iTunes.
As we explained earlier, My iTunes is a collection of three flash-based widgets that can be embedded into your website, blog or social networking profile. They show your recent iTunes Store purchases, an artist tag cloud (again based on purchases), and music you’ve reviewed on iTunes.

You may not have heard of Masaya Matsuura, but you’ve probably played one of his games – or one of many clones his insane-genius mind has inspired.

Apple may be planning ad-funded iTunes, according to UK Copyright Tribunal
If you’re not a music industry executive, you probably haven’t spent much time perusing the documents from the recent UK Copyright Tribunal’s decision on online royalty rates for music publishers. But some people have, and they’ve turned up evidence that Apple is planning to introduce ad-funded music on iTunes.
Opinion: Nokia's iTunes rival has to be more than a me-too music service
Stuart Dredge writes…
So, it seems Nokia is about to take the wrappers off its ‘proper’ music download service, according to the well-sourced article in Fortune Magazine that we wrote about earlier. It’s not even a secret that Nokia’s been planning to launch a rival to iTunes: last August, Nokia bought mobile music firm Loudeye, and said at the time that one reason was its intention to launch “a comprehensive music experience to Nokia device owners during 2007”.
Will Nokia launch an iTunes-rivalling online music service?
Nokia could well be gearing up to launch its own mobile music download service, if recent reports in Fortune Magazine are proved correct.
Sources close to Nokia’s CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, claim that the new worldwide service could launch on 29th August at a London event featuring live music at the Ministry of Sound nightclub.
They also claim that the system would work much like iTunes, offering downloads of music tracks to a PC for transferring to mobile devices – either Nokia’s own, or others via DRM software.
NikePlus runners clock up 22 million miles
The frankly ridiculous idea of letting your iPod talk to your trainers and then posting all the data online seems to have taken off, with users of the NikePlus service registering a total of 22 million miles total running distance.
That’s the equivalent of running from London to Bristol…
