Introducing the Pocket Yoga – the netbook that never was
These days, with every man and his dog owning a netbook of some kind, you have to do something really special to stand out from the crowd. The Pocket Yoga seemed to have done that, kicking up a storm in the blog world – and then we found out its based on a concept from two years ago.
According to the Lenovo Design Matters Blog, all the images that appeared on their Flickr feed and got people talking about a netbook/tablet crossover are just that: images – two-year-old prototypes as a matter of fact, which would have put the company well ahead of the netbook trend. That’s a real shame because, as you’ll see from the gallery below, the pictures look like a stylish alternative to the popular smartphones of the moment. Although, that said, they clearly didn’t anticipate the handcramp that extended writing on an early netbook can give one.
So for the moment at least, you can chalk this one up to a misguided rumour. The pictures are real but they shouldn’t be amounting to much more. Pity.
To see what might have been, click the picture to look through the gallery.

Lenovo launches new slim, pretty Y-series of laptops
This machine is one of three Y-series laptops announced this morning by Lenovo, and it’s certainly a looker. The Y650, Y550, and Y450 machines (it’s not clear which one is pictured above) only differ in screen size, ranging from 16″ to 14″, via 15″, all at a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Inside, they’re rather attractive, too – boasting upto 4GB of RAM, upto 500GB hard disk space, and an optional NVidia GFX graphics card. The trackpad’s multi-touch, too, which might make it a good candidate to turn into a hackintosh. Can’t wait to get one into my hands, and see if it’s as lovely in person as in that picture above.

Lenovo promises two new netbooks – S9e and S10e
The hail of netbooks continues as Lenovo updates its S10 Ideapad netbook with ‘Splashtop’ capabilities. This is a rather nifty little facility that makes the netbook very nearly ‘instant-on’. This means that basic email, IM and internet tasks can be accomplished within seconds of pressing the power button, though to do more complex stuff you need to boot into Windows.
Similarly, the S9e is an update of the S9, and adds the same ‘Splashtop’ functionality to the existing model. Both updates feature identical specs to their originals, but have the new instant-on Linux OS which dual-boots with Windows. The S10e will cost 299 pounds, but I can’t seem to find anywhere how much the S9e will cost. If you know, then drop us a line in the comments.

Keep your porn more hidden than ever with Lenovo's 128-bit encrypted ThinkPad USB Portable Secure HD
We’re sure there are plenty of uses for external hard drives other than using them as hiding places for pornography. Like, er, as a back up for treasured family photos. 320GB of treasured family photographs.
If you have need for a large chunk of external memory and need it safely locked away behind a 128-bit virtual wall (then hidden in the loft or underneath a floorboard until you’ve got the house to yourself), Lenovo has it covered with its ThinkPad USB Portable Secure Hard Drive – complete with onboard…
More Lenovo thinness with the improved ThinkPad X301 notebook PC
It’s been six months since Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300 (pictured) hit our shores, so it’s high time for an update, and it’s come in the form of… the X301.
A number of improvements over its predecessor add up to a pretty nifty notebook.
The X301 adds a 128GB solid state drive option, plus Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low volt (ULV) processor which, when coupled with the latest DDR3 memory, boasts a 20% improvement in performance over the X300. It can be fitted with either a 1.2GHz U9300 or a 1.4GHz U9400, and the front-side bus has been boosted to 1,066MHz: the X300 had just 800MHz. More oomph, basically…
Lenovo IdeaPad U8: Mobile Internet Device
If you love the idea of easy-to-use mobile internet, but you don’t want to, or can’t invest in an iPhone or iPod touch, then you’re pretty much screwed. Sorry. But there might be some light on the horizon, thanks to Lenovo…
Olympic flash drives don't make up for your lack of sporting ability. Sorry.
Back in the days of Chairman Mao China was really not big on capitalism and sneered at what it saw as the decadent west chucking its money around on pointless consumerism. Things have changed now though, and China is a total sell-out. It’s like they’re the band who were in it for the music but at the first whiff of cash signed to a major record label and slapped its logo on everything in order to score some cash. Sure, the band doesn’t have any principles, but at least it’s making a lot of money and can buy lots of nice things because of it.
The Olympics is proving even more lucrative for China, with Lenovo producing a line of… Olympic-themed flash drives…
Lenovo announces Thinkpad with built in Wacom tablet. It's huge.
Laptops are generally known for portability – the idea being that you can sling it in your bag and carry it with you wherever you go. I wouldn’t try lugging about the Lenovo ThinkPad W700 too much though, as you might risk back problems. It’s massive.
Perhaps the main reason it is so gigantic is the built in Wacom tablet – which in the photo looks like a massive touchpad…
Lenovo announces Ideapad S10 netbook
As it seems every PC manufacturer has to create a small computer to compete with Asus’ Eee PC, Lenovo has announced it is to launch the Ideapad S10 netbook.
Initial specs suggest it will sport a 10 inch backlit LED screen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, Windows XP, 512MB or 1GB of RAM, and 80GB or 160GB hard drive. A Linux version could be made available to non-US markets…
Lenovo intros ThinkPad X200 ultra-thin notebook PC
Not content with the thinness of its ThinkPad X300, Lenovo has announced the ThinkPad X200, weighing in at 1.34kgs when fitted with a four-cell battery, and offering 12.1-inch display, 64GB solid state storage or 320GB hard drive, Intel Core 2 Duo chips running at between 2.26GHz and 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Wi-Fi and mobile broadband options.
In fact, the X200 is slightly chunkier than the X300, by a whopping 1.8mm, and has the option of an ultra-thin Blu-ray optical drive. In future, Lenovo will also offer UWB and WiMax connectivity plus GPS…
