CES 2009: LG brings YouTube to Bluray
LG announced today that as well as bringing the full Bluray experience to your living room, in the form of Profile 2.0, their new BD370 Bluray player will also stream content from YouTube. Yes, you can enjoy top quality content like the latest in RC ducks right there on your sofa.
CES 2009: LG showing off prototype LG-GD910 watch-phone hybrid device
When I was a wee nipper, I used to talk into my watch and imagine that my friends could hear me. They invariably couldn’t, which is probably just as well, but perhaps someone heard me, and now they work for LG. The LG-GD910 is basically a phone that you wear on your wrist.
As you can imagine, there’s not much in the way of features – “you can wear it on your wrist” being top of the pile. Additionally, though, it’s waterproof, weighs 85 grams, and has voice calling, text to speech, and stereo Bluetooth, which officially makes it better than the iPhone, in one category at least. It’ll have three real buttons, a touchscreen, and weigh 85g. Due for release “this year”.

LG to build Netflix-enabled HDTVs, Adobe bringing Flash to HD equipment
LG should announce today that it is to manufacture high definition LCD and plasma TVs with the Netflix Internet streaming service built in for the US market.
The two companies launched a partnership to manufacture set top boxes just before CES last year. This news means that consumers will be able to buy an integrated TV rather than a dedicated STB and additional cabling…
LG's sunlight screen LCD – 25% less power consumption, 4x more laptop theft
LG has gone and been a bit of a little genius today by successfuly devleoping the kind of tech that makes one stand up and applaud heartily – but jolly well politely – and say, “Bravo, yes, bravo!”
They’ve come up with a laptop screen that can be illuminated by sunlight instead of the usual backlighting…
SHINY VIDEO REVIEW: LG KP500 "Cookie"
In the video above, Zara gets to grips with LG’s rather popular new KP500, or the “Cookie”, as I mocked here. There’s no 3G, or GPS, so I’m not sure how much I could recommend it, but it does have a lovely 3″ touchscreen and an accelerometer. It’s a decent low-end handset, and should come cheap on contracts.

LG crams 4G LTE tech on a mobile phone chip
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the future. While you were in bed this morning, dreaming of Konnie Huq running in slow motion in the snow, LG were hard at work in Japan (where it’s midday when it’s 3am here) putting ridiculously futuristic technology on a mobile phone chip.
The tech is called LTE, which (doesn’t really) stand for “the Long Term Evolution of 3GPP”. It’s basically the plans that the 3rd Generation Partnership Project has for the future of 3G and cellular broadband in general. Some people refer to it as 4G.
Sharp, LG and Chunghwa get fined $585 million for price-fixing
Wow. Wondered why your electronic devices cost so much? It’s because Sharp, LG and Chunghwa have been fixing the prices, but have no fear – they’ve just been hit with a $585 million fine for having done so. LG gets the biggest chunk – $400 million, Sharp are paying $120 for fixing the prices of iPod screens, RAZR screens and Dell laptop screens. Lastly, Chunghwa will pay a $65 million fine for participating with LG.
Only these three corporations have been charged, but Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust at the Justice Department in Washington, Thomas Barnett, has said that the investigation is still ongoing and they aren’t ruling out charges against individuals or against other companies. Tough talk. Still, hopefully it’ll see screen-based device prices go down over the next few years.

LG KF300 launches on Orange
Up there is the LG KF300, which is launching today on Orange. It’s a flip phone, but it’s only 16.2 mm thick, which I’m sure you’ll agree is rather on the anorexic side. It’s got an extra-large keypad, and dedicated hotkeys for features like the phonebook, message inbox, calendar and alarm clock.
Specs-wise, there’s a paltry 14MB of internal memory, but support for upto 2GB of microSD card-age. It also has a 2 megapixel camera, 2.2″ screen, stereo Bluetooth, and FM radio. It’ll play MP3s, like just about every phone ever, but there’s no sign of a 3.5″ headphone jack.
This phone won’t win any awards for its features, but it’s a reasonably attractive flip phone at a budget price point. It’s available now, for free on a £15 a month, two year contract. If you want it, go see Orange. They’ve got it.

LG launches W2284F 22-inch widescreen monitor
LG has announced its latest 22-inch widescreen monitor for the UK market. The W2284F has won an iF Product Design Award, because apparently it’s an outstanding example of design perfection.
Before we get to the specifications (which in my opinion is what really counts), let’s dwell a little on LG’s design ethos — the soft blue power button beneath the screen was inspired by a drop of morning dew, while the rest of the monitor is glossy black — inspired by a grand piano, perhaps?
The LG KP500 is now the LG "Cookie" and wuvs you very much
The LG KP500 is getting described everywhere as “affordable”, which is one of the best examples that I’ve ever heard of damning with faint praise. A few more details have been issued about the handset, the most interesting of which is that it’s now called “Cookie”, which seems a bit like calling a phone “Schnookums” or “Bunnikins”…
