Is LG's double-sided reflective display a prototype for next-gen book readers?
Though LG seems to be about to pull out of the OLED business, it has been pushing another new technology which could be very useful for powering the next generation of digital readers and other mobile devices.
At the International Meeting on Information Display, it’s shown off a 15-inch double-sided reflective display with a resolution of 512 x 384 pixels, and a 13.3-inch reflective display with 1,280 x 800 resolution. These ECB-mode displays could be used in mobile devices that can be used easily in bright light/sunlight…
LG offers a 22.5" 16:9 widescreen monitor, the W2261V
Following the industry trend of switching from 16:10 displays to 16:9 ones, LG has just unveiled the W2261V. That’s it up there. It’s got a 2ms response time, 1920×1080 resolution, and a rather lovely design…
LG announces new Scarlet LG80 TV, may come to UK eventually
LG has announced the latest in its line of Scarlet high definition LCD TVs, so named because the sets feature a deep red back and surround.
The LG80 features carefully tuned speakers that automatically slide out from the side of the set when it’s turned on. Apparently this “adds a bit more excitement”, but more importantly it improves sound quality. LG has created a 3.1-channel virtual surround sound system, meaning that those without the space or cash for external speakers can still enjoy decent sound. The speakers push out 50 watts each…
LG announces second touchscreen Prada phone with real keyboard
As rumoured a couple of months ago, LG and Prada have teamed up to launch a successor to the original Prada phone that launched last year.
At first glance, the new Prada phone looks very similar to the first, but it now sports a thin slide-out silver metallic keyboard and a beefy 5-megapixel camera (up from two) with Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens…
LG announces LG-KC780 eight megapixel slim slider phone
Hot on the heels of the KC910 Renoir (reviewed here) comes another eight megapixel camera phone from LG.
The LG-KC780 doesn’t sport a touchscreen — a small mercy for anyone who can’t stand the recent crop of iPhone wannabes — but still packs in a 2.4-inch widescreen LCD on a slim (13.9mm) slider body.
Claiming that “most of the time people use the cameras on their mobile phones to take pictures of themselves, their families, friends and significant others”, LG has included a number of face-enhancing features: Face Detection, Smile Detection, and Beauty Mode (removes blemishes)…
Shiny Video Review: LG KC910 Renoir
In the video above, Dan takes a butcher’s at LG KC910 Renoir, an eight megapixel cameraphone. It’s got blink detection (which completely fails to work when Dan tries it) and smile detection, demonstrated by a rather attractive, if a little grumpy, young man.
If you want one, keep your eyes peeled – it’ll be out later this month. Don’t expect to get it cheap, mind…

Shiny Video Preview: LG Renoir KC910
Here’s another 8 megapixel cameraphone in this (rather pink) video from Zara. We covered it in its KC910 incarnation here. The Renoir can record video at 120fps, which is rather mighty, considering it’s a phone. It’s a touchscreen, and comes with GPS. Very nice, indeed.

LG-KP500: UK's most affordable touchscreen mobile handset coming October
LG has announced its latest full touchscreen mobile phone handset, the LG-KP500, which it claims is the UK’s most affordable yet. We’ll have to take the company’s word on that, because official pricing hasn’t yet been announced.
In fact, details are pretty sketchy all round. Looks wise, it’s slim, encased in black with a titanium rim. Features include handwriting recognition, on-screen QWERTY keyboard, auto-orientation when the handset is turned through 90 degrees, plus a motion sensor for gaming options.
Yes, it does sound remarkably like that “i” phone, doesn’t it, except it comes with a built-in stylus for more accurate tapping of icons. Presumably LG is more concerned over chunky fingers than Apple…
LG intros HRT403DA Freeview+ home cinema system
LG has announced its latest home cinema system, boasting full PVR functionality, a meaty 400W output, and virtual 5.1-channel sound.
Using the more advanced Freeview+ system means that live TV can be paused, rewound, and recorded onto the internal 160GB hard drive. There’s also a super-multi DVD recorder, an HDMI output with 1080p upscaling to allow standard definition video sources to be enhanced, USB and DV ports, and DivX compatibility…
LG launches 22-inch widescreen monitor with built-in webcam
LG has announced the latest in its line of widescreen LCD monitors. The W2271TC features a built-in webcam, microphone, and speakers, which means you needn’t bother with lots of extra gadgetry on your desk.
Offering 20,000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time, 300 nits brightness, 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, and 170 degree viewing angle, the monitor comes supplied with software so that it be used for video recording and image capture and editing, and face tracking and zooming…
