New Mario and Zelda games to be unveiled at E3?

Mario-and-Zelda-release copy.jpg

Are Nintendo going to announce new Mario and Zelda games at E3 next Tuesday? Well that certainly is the rumour.

It all seems to have started after Macquarie Research said: “We expect Nintendo to learn its lessons from last year and provide more gamer-centric announcements at E3 such as a new Zelda or Mario title for the Wii.”

Which certainly doesn’t sound to us like good solid fact-based information – it sound suspiciously like speculation. But well founded and oddly business-like speculation. But that’s the thing about speculation, it’s awfully exciting, sometimes more exciting than when the product actually arrives.

And you can’t deny, it would make sence to release a new Mario and/or Zelda game. It’s been two years since Mario Galaxy made its welcome appearance. Nintendo need to understand – people need more Mario. I need more Mario. We all, need, more, Mario. Come on guys – let’s have a Mario Party! No? Just me? And Mario…Not you Luigi. Nobody needs more Luigi.

Void in life filled by Mario toys

It’s OK. This makes everything OK. No matter how much you have spent on Sonic The Hedgehog plushes and Transformers action figures over the last 10 years, there is always someone out there who is in significantly deeper. Whoever owns this is in over their head. There is no way back to normal society from here.

This little lot is what you would generously describe as “quite a few” Nintendo toys. There would appear to be some duplicates in the collection, but that just adds to the sense of deep, tragic waste of money and a life.

Don't bother rescuing the princess, just grab some Nintendo decals from Blik instead

It’s common knowledge ’round these parts that I dress as Mario at every available opportunity. Heck, you’ve probably even seen me right here on Tech Digest in my costume. So it’ll be of no surprise to you that I am salivating over these Super Mario Bros. decals for walls, then.

The hardest part is choosing between Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, or New Super Mario Bros. however – although at $75 a pop, you better choose just one or you won’t have any gold coins left over for actual games…

Shiny Video: London's Guinness Book of World Records' gaming character costumes attempt

This morning I waved my gamer-geek credentials high in the sky from London’s Millennium Bridge, where the Guinness Book of World Records staged an event, attempting to gather together the most people in one place dressed as game characters.

Take a look at the video above for some choice costumes, including the twenty-odd strong group of school kids dressed as Mario (one of them shouted out to me, as I was also dressed as Mario, “Mario! we’re your sons!”), Crash Bandicoot, Sonic the Hedgehog, a chilly-looking Lara Croft, Final Fantasy’s Rikku plus a whole lot more.

You’ll be pleased…

Londoner? Gamer geek? Want to be in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition?

Oooh, now this is exciting! London is trying to get itself into the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, by gathering together the largest group ever of games characters on March the 18th.

If you fancy it, join me (dressed as Mario, left) and hopefully thousands of other Londoners at 10.30am at the Millennium Bridge dressed in either your favourite gaming character’s togs, or whatever you have lying around your house which could turn you into the Kind of All Cosmos from Katamari Damacy.

Everyone who attends will be featured…

Shiny Video: interview with Charles Martinet, voice of Mario for Nintendo

Never have I been more jealous in this job before – Bulent, one of my colleagues who works on our Nintendo blog, WiiWii, today met with Charles Martinet, who provides the voice for Mario, in town for today’s launch of Super Mario Galaxy.

Take a look at the above video for his amazing impersonations, the hilarious story behind him winning the role of Mario, how…
