CES 2008: Erector / Meccano unveil three new Spyke robots (well, Spykee)
Spyke was one of the hits of last year’s CES, being a spy robot capable of trundling around the house recording video and streaming it to you over Wi-Fi. Trouble is, he never actually went on sale – makers Erector and Meccano delayed him to get the technology just right. He’s due out in September or October this year now, and has acquired an extra ‘e’ (he’s now called Spykee).

Since I started this World Cup, Japanese scientists have probably invented about 76 new bots even more deadly / cool / ridiculous than the ones featured here. Ah well. No late entries or byes are permitted, even if someone creates a British TennisBot capable of winning Wimbledon. Which is frankly unlikely.
Meccano's Spyke spy robot available to pre-order
We first reported on Spyke in January when he was unveiled at CES. He’s a pint-sized robot with built-in Wi-Fi, a microphone and a video camera.
