Google put Olympic medal tables on mobile site. Now you can watch Olympic dreams die whilst on the go

googlemobile.png

The trouble with the Olympics is that it is just too big. There’s so many sports to keep track of and they go on for so long, is it really possible to keep an eye out for your favourite minority sport? Are you really willing to endure all of that track cycling whilst you wait for the Handball to start? (Whatever Handball is?) Luckily, Google has got you covered – it has optimised it’s mobile site for the duration of the games…

MySpace.com users to get free The Cloud Wi-Fi access across UK

MySpace.com users can now gain free access to over 7,000 Wi-Fi hotspots courtesy of The Cloud, thanks to a deal announced today.

When users connect to one of The Cloud’s wireless locations via their mobile device, they’ll be greeted with MySpace branding and multimedia content on the landing page. Presumably if they’ve not paid for access to the rest of the Internet, or have an iPhone, that’s as far as they’ll get…

"Microscope on a chip" could lead to mobile magnification

bioengineer_mobile_microscope.jpg

Scientists from the Californian Institute of Technology have developed a high resolution microscope which is small enough to fit on a fingertip.

It uses “microfluidics” with a grid of CCD sensors — as used in digital cameras — to allow the liquid being analysed to be viewed in high magnification.

The chip needs to be illuminated from above, but sunlight is sufficient, meaning that it could provide a useful mobile solution for medical diagnosis in developing countries, as well as anywhere else…

Vodafone has announced an upgrade to its satellite navigation service, now offering its customers free access to directions and places of interest.

Partnering with Multimap, the Find & Go service allows users to search for a destination on their home PC and then send the search result to their mobile phone free of charge. BenQ eyes up the BlackBerry market with their E72 Windows Mobile 6 smartphone

benq-e72-phone.jpg

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a BenQ product, but the company has come out in top form with the launch of the E72 smartphone. Running on Windows Mobile 6, it’s aimed at the low-end market.

One attractive feature about the E72 is that it’s the first mobile with an integrated IM client that will allow you to chat on MSN Messenger, Gtalk, Yahoo, ICQ, AOL and Jabber. Whilst it lacks 3G internet capabilities, it does have Wi-Fi for browsing in your local hot-spot, and the usual WM6 programs, such as Outlook email…

Google says Android development is proceeding as was foreseen – 2008 release IS ON

google-android-not-delayed.jpg

It seems like – and actually was – just yesterday that the internet, even this bit of it, was thrown into chaos by a boring old business report suggesting that Google’s much-wanted Android mobile OS stood between ZERO and F-ALL chance of coming out in 2008.

Well. It is. It really is. Google itself issued a statement on the web-sweeping Android delay rumours last night, a statement we’re only too happy to copy & paste into this here web browser for your information.

“We are on schedule and we’re very excited to see the momentum continuing to build behind the Android platform among carriers, manufacturers, developers and consumers…

The Orange "Dance Charge" – power your mobile through motion

The Orange Dance Charge is a motion-powered kinetic charger full of magnets and weights, designed to keep your phone juiced-up simply from the movement of your arms. How many words do you think we’ll get into this update before resorting to crude references to masturbation?

We’re not particularly excited about what’s clearly a novelty item designed to generate a bit of publicity during the UK’s festival season and help Orange make a token effort to look like it’s a “green” company, but you sort of have to use awesome promotional photographs like this:

It weighs a teeny 180grams…
