Motorola picks Swindon to test out 4G
Motorola is testing 4G, also known as LTE – the Long-Term Evolution of 3G, at its lab in Swindon. The trials are using 2.6GHz spectrum, just above the range used by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (2.4GHz).
4G is competing with WiMax to replace 3G as the communications standard for the next generation of mobile phones. Vodafone’s also testing a 4G service, but it’s unlikely that consumers will start seeing this technology for at least a few years.

Motorola recruits eight photographers in eight cities to capture 'a day in the life of the world'
Motorola has just kicked in with a new marketing campaign for its Motozine ZN5 mobile. The phone features a five megapixel camera, developed in conjunction with Kodak, and so Motorola’s recruited eight photographers around the world to capture the essence of the city they live in, using the ZN5.
The photographers had to stay awake for 24 hours taking photos, but the results are surprisingly awesome. There’s a lovely picture of a taxi and a white van at 17:00 in London, and a beautifully muted shot of a railway station in Mumbai at 13:00. The Moscow subway at 01:00 is incredible, too.
Motorola Aura – luxury phone with the first circular display
Blimey. Sometimes stuff leaks very very early, other times you don’t see it till it’s nearly out. This certainly falls into the latter category. It’s a more-than-a-little-ridiculous new phone from Motorola. “Luxury” doesn’t come close – this phone has more than 700 individual components, a 62-carat sapphire crystal lens, and the world’s first 16 million colour, circular display with 300 dpi resolution.
I’m feeling a little breathless right now, so here’s what Motorola has to say about the device:
Combining superb craftsmanship and a distinctive interface, AURA delivers a sensory experience that is second to none for those with refined tastes. From the moment AURA owners pick up their devices, they elevate their own experience in luxury and unmatched quality.
Motorola preps Android "social smartphone"
Over the last couple of months, Motorola has been showing to carriers a bunch of specs and pictures of a touchscreen phone based on the Android platform. The phone will apparently take some of the design cues from the “Krave” (pictured above) which was released in the States last week…
Motorola Blaze might be Verizon's answer to iPhone 3G
While us Europeans are pretty blessed with a range of kickass mobile handsets that will no doubt compete pretty well with the iPhone 3G, there’s not quite so much choice in the States, which is why we often see stories about Verizon Wireless (AT&T’s main competitor) looking for a handset that will entice customers to its network…
Motorola's GPS-friendly MING A1600 and A1800 handsets get an official launch
Motorola has a couple of GPS-friendly clamshells on the market – but perhaps calling them ‘MING’ isn’t the wisest move…

Motorola formally introduces MOTO ROKR E8 music mobile phone to the masses
Last night at an exclusive London event, Motorola launched the MOTO ROKR E8 handset, which is aimed at music aficionados.
Featuring ModeShift technology, it turns from a music player back to a phone with the touch of one button, and has FastScroll navigation for rolling through your songs – you can store 3,000 of them due to the 2GB of storage – and locate the one you want easily. Unfortunately you have to use Windows Media Player 11 to transfer those tunes, however.
Specs-wise, there’s Bluetooth, a full HTML web browser, haptics, a 2.0-megapixel camera, and microSD card slot. Sadly…
Shiny Video Review: Motorola Z10 mobile phone
It’s not often Susi finds a gadget that she doesn’t get along with, however there was just something about the Motorola Z10 that drove her crazy. Running on the S60 platform, the HSDPA phone has a 3.2-megapixel camera and captures QVGA video at 30fps. The idea behind the Z10 is that it’s all about…
Who's joining the digital movie rental scene today? Motorola and Paramount!
If you have a Motorola telephone (commiserations, by the way) you’ll soon be able to watch a few crusty old Star Trek movies on it.
Excuse me while I go and change my trousers, I have just soiled myself with excitement.
Yes, while the world waits for Apple to pretend it’s invented 3G and video calling later today, Motorola has teamed up with Paramount to allow its users to stick movies on their handsets via their PC and a Motorola server. 40 films are…
