Sony launches HD-friendly Vaio range, including "super notebook" and all-in-ones
Sony has introduced its new range of Vaio hardware, with a focus on high definition and Blu-ray.
Vaio AW
Sony describes its Vaio AW as a “new class” of portable, because it boasts a range of advanced features including a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution 18.4-inch widescreen using 3LED backlighting similar to that found on Sony’s high-end BRAVIA TVs, integrated Blu-ray drive, Dolby Home Theatre audio signal processing and 2.1-channel speakers with integrated subwoofer.
It features an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, and 128GB solid state disk and 500GB hard drive working together in a RAID array. It also comes with Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom, which should appeal to photographers and artists using the Vaio AW for image processing…
Dell Inspiron 910 coming tomorrow? Don't expect to be able to type properly on it
There are rumours doing the Internet rounds that Dell may finally be about to release its Inspiron 910 portable notebook PC.
We’ve been expecting it for a while now, but a Wall Street Journal source reckons it could be announced tomorrow.
Apparently, the 8.9-inch XP or Linux notebook will be easy to upgrade various aspects of the PC, including memory and solid-state drive, thanks to their easy accessibility from the base panel.
Inside Dell’s 910: SSD (1), WWAN module (2), memory (3), WLAN module (4)
Sony and Tosh top notebook PC reliability chart, third of Americans want Apple
A recent consumer survey by Which? magazine suggests that Sony and Toshiba top the pile when it comes to laptop reliability, both scoring 93%.
Perhaps surprisingly given how they’re used, and the belief that laptop computers don’t last as long, portable PCs scored better than their desktop relatives.
Apple tied with Dell and Compaq at the top of the chart for desktop computer reliability, with 86%.
Of course these results are based on consumer experience rather than scientific measurement, so it doesn’t mean those brands at the top of the pile are necessarily the best…
Dell Inspiron 910 / Mini Note / E / Eee competitor full specs released
This one’s been bubbling under for a while – ever since Michael Dell was spotting carrying a tiny red notebook under his arm at All Things D. The name has changed several times, and we’ve been adding pencils to all the pictures of notebooks we can, but now it’s called the Inspiron 910. Until the next time we post about it, anyway…

More Lenovo thinness with the improved ThinkPad X301 notebook PC
It’s been six months since Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300 (pictured) hit our shores, so it’s high time for an update, and it’s come in the form of… the X301.
A number of improvements over its predecessor add up to a pretty nifty notebook.
The X301 adds a 128GB solid state drive option, plus Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low volt (ULV) processor which, when coupled with the latest DDR3 memory, boasts a 20% improvement in performance over the X300. It can be fitted with either a 1.2GHz U9300 or a 1.4GHz U9400, and the front-side bus has been boosted to 1,066MHz: the X300 had just 800MHz. More oomph, basically…

Maplin launches lightweight seven-inch Minibook
Maplin has entered the tiny notebook PC market, announcing its Minibook PC with a seven inch TFT widescreen and weighing in at 650 grams.
It runs Linux, has three USB 2.0 ports, stereo speakers and microphone, mouse pad, Xip Office software, SDHC reader, Ethernet, 2GB SSD storage, a “multi-theme display” for use by kids or adults (I’ve no idea), but only 128MB of memory…
