Joost opens up its API for developer widgets
Widgets rule. They’re taking over the Web 2.0 world, as companies realise that the more open you are, the faster you grow. And if that involves people biting each other as Facebook Vampires, so much the better.
Joost is the latest Web 2.0 outfit to get widgety. The online TV service has opened up its API, allowing developers to create their own Joost plug-ins. There’s a dedicated website with all the documentation and tutorials eager coders will need.
WiTV: like Joost but entirely browser-based
The downside of Telly 2.0 services like Joost and VeohTV are that you have to download a new application for each of them, clogging up your PC if you’re the kind of channel-surfing ho’ who wants to use all three. Someone’s hacked together an AJAX version of Joost, but it’s early days.

Joost gets its own unofficial Flash mash-up
Cor! Someone’s only gone and made a version of Joost that works within your web browser, rather than making you download a dedicated application.
Opinion: Joost’s magic million heralds a bright future for online TV
Stuart Dredge writes… On British TV, a million viewers isn’t anything to shout about unless you’re a niche digital channel. But online, news that Telly 2.0 service Joost has signed up over a million users will be greeted by cheers….
Now MMORPGs are getting their own Telly 2.0 shows
The world of online TV is a confusing place, with hundreds of available channels already, and a presently limited audience. Which is to say, there’s a lot of niche broadcasting going on.
Veoh takes on Joost and Babelgum in the Telly 2.0 war
Just a couple of days ago I was writing about how online TV is set to explode in the next six months, thanks to firms like Joost and Babelgum. Now another startup has joined the fray: Veoh Networks. It launched its VeohTV service today, in beta naturally.
2007 Tech Trends No. 1: Telly 2.0
First in a series of posts highlighting Tech Digest’s pick of big technology trends for the second half of 2007…
Let’s get one thing clear first. Online TV ISN’T about watching TV on your PC. Well, it is at the moment, because most of the people doing it are geeks like you and me. But in the long term, online TV is about delivering TV through your broadband connection to a proper TV in your living room, bedroom or wherever.
