SHINY VIDEO REVIEW: BlackBerry Flip 8220
Here’s Susi’s take on the BlackBerry Flip. On the one hand, it has Wi-Fi and 3.5mm headphone jack. On the other, however, it has just a 2 megapixel camera. Oh, and it’s a flip phone. Which was cool sometime around 1998. For more details, check out Susi’s video above.

IcePhone – concept mobile with triple-flip
This is pinteresting- a concept mobile phone from a company called “The Medical Phone Ltd”. It’s a triple-flip device complete with touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, and a third ‘function panel’. It runs Windows Mobile and features GPS, A 3.1 megapixel camera, and Wi-Fi. It runs Windows Mobile 6.0, and features ‘ctrl-alt-delete’ functionality, appararently, which seems a rather strange feature to highlight.
The IcePhone began life as a medical/survival device, and it still retains some of that functionality. There’s one-button access to call 999, your nearest hospital and your doctor simultaneously. It’ll be available in Thailand ‘soon’, but they reckon they’ll have it out in the UK before May next year. The bad news? It’ll be retailing at £670 or so. Pricy.

Mobile Phone for a fiver? The Samsung SGH-B130 at Carphone Warehouse
Want a mobile phone for about the same quantity of cash that lunch cost you yesterday? The Samsung SGH-B130 is your man – it costs £5. It boasts a colour screen, vibrating alert and polyphonic ringtones in its features, and it’s described by the Carphone Warehouse, who are selling it, as “surprisingly light and slim”.
It’s got a USB port, too, and WAP and GPRS, but there’s no camera, music player, or touchscreen. You’ll need to add £10 of credit to get the price down to £5, but even so, for the market it’s aimed at, this is a great deal.

3's "INQ1" Facebook phone details confirmed
At a launch event this morning in Shoreditch, 3 unveiled its “INQ1” Facebook phone, which we wrote about just over a week ago. It’s basically a phone that has massive Facebook integration, as well as integration with Skype, Windows Live Messenger and Last.fm.
WIth more and more people using their phones for their social networking needs, 3 wanted a handset with that functionality at its very core. The device pushes Facebook news feed updates to the home screen of your phone, and the contact book is being described as ‘live’, where friends’ Facebook profile pictures show up next to their contact details…
Nokia unveils E63 "messaging device"
Here’s the E63 – another QWERTY candybar from Nokia to join the E71. It’s designed as a slightly more mass-market version of the E71, but still keeps the business features that made that handset so popular. Nokia’s aim with this is to appeal to consumers who want to do work on their phone, but also access their personal stuff too.
The E63 keeps the Wi-Fi, exchange mail, and single-key access to contacts, your calendar and email, but it also adds an ability to switch modes from a po-faced ‘professional’ view, with your work email, appointments, and intranet data, to a ‘personal’ view that has pictures of your cats, personal email, and shortcuts to favourite blogs…
iRiver Wave – a mp3 player/phone hybrid device. It'll never catch on.
In the lovely Korean girl’s hand above is the iRiver Wave. It’s a *gasp* phone made by an MP3 player manufacturer. The world is imploding. Silliness aside, it’s beautiful, has specs to die for, and the wonderful embedded £2-a-month, all-you-can-stream Bugs Music Service embedded. However, I’m forced to add the phrase that makes any Western techie weep – “Only available in Korea”. Full specs over the jump.
O2 launches new Xda 'Zest' on PAYG
O2 has just announced the launch of the Asus-built Xda ‘Zest’ – the first Xda model to be available on Pay as you Go. If you think that means it’s going to be a bit ‘budget’, then think again – it’s remarkably well featured.
At the core of the device is a 2.8″ touchscreen, and it runs Windows Mobile 6.1. It’s got Wi-Fi, HSDPA, a 3-megapixel camera and an FM radio. It’s even got GPS – a function that’s rather rare on PAYG handsets.
The Xda Zest will be available in O2 shops and online from the 17th November. It’ll cost £250 on the aforementioned PAYG, but there’s also 12 and 18 month contracts for those wanting to pay less up front.

LG KF300 launches on Orange
Up there is the LG KF300, which is launching today on Orange. It’s a flip phone, but it’s only 16.2 mm thick, which I’m sure you’ll agree is rather on the anorexic side. It’s got an extra-large keypad, and dedicated hotkeys for features like the phonebook, message inbox, calendar and alarm clock.
Specs-wise, there’s a paltry 14MB of internal memory, but support for upto 2GB of microSD card-age. It also has a 2 megapixel camera, 2.2″ screen, stereo Bluetooth, and FM radio. It’ll play MP3s, like just about every phone ever, but there’s no sign of a 3.5″ headphone jack.
This phone won’t win any awards for its features, but it’s a reasonably attractive flip phone at a budget price point. It’s available now, for free on a £15 a month, two year contract. If you want it, go see Orange. They’ve got it.

STATTACK: You're twice as likely to get your phone nicked in London than in New York
If there was ever a reason to go to GameCityThree, rather than the London Games Festival, then this is it. Carphone Warehouse reckons that 25% of adults in London have had their phone nicked, compared to 15% in the rest of the country. 14% of British teenagers have had their phone stolen, compared to 9% of teens in the USA, and 7% of adults. In London in 2007, there were three robberies per 1000 people, whereas in New York, there were only 1.61…
Asus to launch Android-powered smartphone
What’s the betting Asus are going to call this the EeePhone? Fairly high, I’d imagine, given their tendency to slap the Eee label on everything they produce. The Taiwanese company recently brought out a Windows Mobile-powered smartphone, but this one will run Google’s new mobile OS – Android.
Initially the phones will likely be only for sale in Taiwan, but Asus have mentioned the prospect of bringing them abroad. No more details as yet, but when some more surface, we’ll be sure to share them. It’s good to see more manufacturers making use of the Android platform.
