Shearer V2000 PMP: iPhone in disguise?
OK, so the Shearer V2000 portable music player isn’t really much like the iPhone except in initial looks. It’s not a phone, for a start, though it does sport a 3-inch 16-million colour polysilicon screen encased in a brushed metal exterior. It’s not touch sensitive, so there are extra buttons at the base of the unit for controlling it.
For the acronym-happy, it supports RM/RMV8, AVI, and MPEG video support, plus MP3, WMA, APE, and FLAC audio files, plus JPEG, bitmap, and GIF image formats. It also has an FM radio tuner, LRC lyrics, and text to speech capability, plus built-in BBE and SRS sound enhancement.

iRiver is sticking everything bar the kitchen sink into its personal media players nowadays, and its new W10 PMP is no exception. There’s not much information on its specs, other than the fact that it supports VoIP and a location-based Wi-Fi technology called WPS.

Archos has unveiled its new line of personal media players, dubbed Generation 5. It includes three new PMPs, the 405, 605 and 705, which for the first time will support Flash-based video from YouTube and other online video-sharing sites.
Digital Cube's female-focused M43 iStation personal media player
It’s often assumed that the market for personal media players (PMPs) is dominated by blokes. Over in South Korea, Digital Cube is aiming to change that with its new device. The M43 iStation sounds like a motorway cafe that lets you charge up your iPod, but is in fact a PMP aimed at 20-30 year-old women.
