Sony strengthens firmware portfolio – PSP hits v5.00, PS3 now goes up to v2.50
Sony’s rigorous firmware updating schedule is marching further forward, with the company today announcing new updates to PSP and PS3 – making them both marginally better than before.
The 2.50 update for PS3 will add in support for more voice chat features via the official PS3 bluetooth headset, better integration of Sony’s 100% original “Trophies” feature, plus the quite superb ability to capture screenshots while playing certain games. This will help the internet compare Xbox 360 and PS3 games in more detail than ever before…
Sony unveils useless feature – use a full-size PS3 controller on your PSP
You might have to humour me a little here – I’m not a console gamer. I love PC gaming, but I’m not a fan of trying to control first person shooters with a joypad. Yes, even Goldeneye on the N64. I know, I know, I’m a heathen.
But even thinking through the mind of a console gamer, I completely fail to see the point of using a joypad to control the PSP – which is essentially just a joypad with a screen on anyway…
REVIEW: Raptr – A social network for gamers
Raptr is a new social network that launched today which focuses on gamers. I’ve had a quick play around with it, and I’m actually very impressed. The services tracks your Xbox Live, PS3 and Wii gaming, as well as Steam, Guitar Hero, XFire, and World of Warcraft on the PC. When someone in your friends list starts a game on any of those services, an alert pops up and you can jump right in and join them…
EPIC FAIL: Sony wipes out PS2 profits with PS3 marketing campaign
Oops. Dave Perry, the founder of Shiny Entertainment (no relation), revealed in Leipzig today that Sony has lost more money marketing the PS3 to a reluctant audience than they made during the five years that the PS2 was top dog…
80GB PS3 release brought forward to this Friday
Excellent news if you were thinking about buying a PS3. Awful news if you’ve just bought one. According to a number of online retailers, Sony are bringing out their 80GB PS3 on Friday, rather than a week Friday as was previously thought…
Something to do with a PlayStation3 – spend 25 minutes waiting for Windows Vista to load
You have to love hackers. OK, so they occasionally hack into your email account and upload your cybersex email history to the internet for everyone to laugh at, print out and stick on the office noticeboard, but, once in a while, they pull off something truly magnificent.
Like this – getting Windows Vista running on a PlayStation3. It’s actually running under emulation, with Qemu 0.9.1 doing most of the work. Which is why it takes 25 minutes to boot up.
There’s quite a bit more to it than that, but it’s frankly way above my head and if I tried to explain how it’s been done I’d only get something wrong…
Sony PlayTV for PlayStation 3 landing on September 10th
Much to our disappointment (but certainly not surprise) Sony confirmed following its E3 press conference that the newly unveiled PlayStation Store TV and Movies download service would not be hitting European shores until next year. Maybe. But don’t fret, telly loving gamers out there, Sony has something in the way of a consolation prize: Sony PlayTV. And it’s landing in a little less than two months.
Logitech unveils new wireless force feedback Racing Wheel for PS3
Console manufacturers and games publishers aren’t the only ones living it up at E3. Accessory-makers are out in force too, including Logitech. It has a load of new goodies for console owners including this Driving Force Wireless Racing Wheel for PS3.
80GB PlayStation 3 heading Europe in August, bundles to follow
We learned yesterday that the sort-of-new, sort-of-cut-price 80GB PS3 model was due for North America shortly. But what of little old Europe? Sony has since confirmed that the same model – a non-backwards compatible, larger capacity version of the current 40GB model – will be landing here on August 27th. The price is set at £299 / 399 Euros, the same as the current version.
Nyko Intercooler TS for Xbox 360 and PS3
You know what Xbox 360 really needs? Another motor whirring away while you play.
I find that it’s occasionally possible to hear what’s happening during a game on my current Xbox 360, so it’d be great to up the volume of the Xbox 360 fans and motors to as-yet unheard levels of whirring…
