UK retailer says Playstation 3 and PSP price cuts imminent
It’s no secret that the Playstation 3 is struggling a bit. It’s hard to be firmly in last place in the console wars, yet still be the most expensive by quite a long way. It’s rumoured that publishers are warning them that if they don’t up their market share soon, then they’re going to lose developer support in favour of the Wii. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that CVG reports this morning that a “major UK retailer” has let them know that Sony have price cuts coming soon to both their PS3 and PSP consoles.
Live action replays at Arsenal FC on your PSP – another three points for the prawn sandwich brigade
Fans in the Emirates Stadium could soon able to watch a live stream of football games played at Arsenal on their PSPs should they wish to do so.
The plan is to provide replays and statistics of events on the pitch within 18 months…
Sony planning to revise PSP again in 2009 – with proper "PSP2" to follow later
Today we have yet more leaks from Sony’s gaming division to help inform your purchasing decisions – this time regarding the long awaited and much-needed proper sequel to the little portable PlayStation.
Sony’s tweaked its PSP numerous times before, adding the Slim & Lite model to the range last year, then tinkering with the screen a bit in this year’s 3000 model update.
Now, Eurogamer is telling the world that a further revised PSP – the model 4000 – will hit in late 2009, followed by a proper, all-new PSP2 at some random…
GO!VIEW adds tons of videos: PSP users needn't moan about nothing to watch over Christmas
GO!VIEW has just had hundreds of hours of video content added to it, so Sony PSP owners should have a much bigger range of films and programmes to watch this Christmas.
Content includes the latest TV series such as Lost and Heroes plus classic US and British series including Knight Rider, Miami Vice, Quantum Leap, Red Dwarf and I’m Alan Partridge…
TD Tips: Portable Gaming
It’s that time of the week again. Time for us to pick a topic, seemingly at random, and tell you what you should buy to get the most out of it. This week it’s portable gaming devices. I’m being quite broad with that definition – I’m including anything from proper consoles, to mobile phones, to electronic sudoku on a keyring. Unsurprisingly, however, no-one plumped for the keyring…
Sony strengthens firmware portfolio – PSP hits v5.00, PS3 now goes up to v2.50
Sony’s rigorous firmware updating schedule is marching further forward, with the company today announcing new updates to PSP and PS3 – making them both marginally better than before.
The 2.50 update for PS3 will add in support for more voice chat features via the official PS3 bluetooth headset, better integration of Sony’s 100% original “Trophies” feature, plus the quite superb ability to capture screenshots while playing certain games. This will help the internet compare Xbox 360 and PS3 games in more detail than ever before…
Sony unveils useless feature – use a full-size PS3 controller on your PSP
You might have to humour me a little here – I’m not a console gamer. I love PC gaming, but I’m not a fan of trying to control first person shooters with a joypad. Yes, even Goldeneye on the N64. I know, I know, I’m a heathen.
But even thinking through the mind of a console gamer, I completely fail to see the point of using a joypad to control the PSP – which is essentially just a joypad with a screen on anyway…
PSP to get direct Playstation Store access, shorter battery life
Some more details have trickled out on how Sony plans to boost the fortunes of the PSP, which still lags behind the Nintendo DS in the gaming market, and mobile phones and wallets containing money in the “trendy lifestyle accessories you take out with you” market…
E3 2008, best twenty video games, now done in Haiku
According to my watch, E3 is now finished. The conference has been shifted and downsized and generally turned upside down by format changes but it is still one of the biggest video games spectacles in the world. Nearly everything worth looking out for in the coming months and, in several cases, years was on show. I'm can't write up each one individually as it would take me till September, so here they are in a convenient Haiku form. I take no responsibility for whether these actually conform to rigorous Haiku format requirements.
Go!View video on demand for PSP launches today
So there I am, sitting at my desk eating my chicken and cheese club sandwich trying not to drop slices of heavily mayoed tomato onto the keyboard when what should turn up in my inbox in a rather casual manner but the announcement that the Sony PSP video on demand service, Go!View, has just gone live?…
