Asus is hiring – boosting laptop manufacturing by 77% to cope with demand

The globally beloved small laptop maker has said it’s well on target to sell 11.3 million notebooks and netbooks this year and will shift a massive 20 million next year, making it one of the “top four” laptop sellers in the world.

Asus is currently hiring old women and buying hair-nets and raw materials in an attempt to boost its factory output by 77% this year, as it attempts to cope with rocketing demand for its extremely wide – and rapidly widening – range of cheap laptops…

Nintendo saves UK education system – Brain Training sets new games chart record

The game officially known as Prof. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? was first released in June of 2006. It’s still in the UK software top 10 this very week, moving up one place to number eight.

This staggering achievement makes a total of 80 weeks in the top 10 for Nintendo’s DS concentration masterclass, a stay which takes the all time record…

Guitar Hero: On Tour sells 300k in first week after US launch, enters Activision top five

Activision’s latest in the Guitar Hero series — Guitar Hero: On Tour — has sold 300,000 copies in its first week of release in the US, putting it in the company’s top five best-selling launch titles.

Mike Griffith, president and CEO, Activision Publishing, was suitably gushy about the whole thing, saying “Guitar Hero is one of the most successful entertainment properties and continues to push the boundaries of innovation with Guitar Hero: On Tour.”…

Xbox 360 outsells PS3 in the UK thanks to little-known arthouse video game GTA IV

PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 both benefited BIG TIME from the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, but it was Xbox 360 that took the larger and more sustained win.

Sales of Microsoft’s console were up a whopping 47% over the four weeks since GTA IV launched, according to UK stat-watcher Chart-Track, with PlayStation3 managing a rather more modest – and slightly disappointing…

Dell dropping some XPS models – pushing its new toy Alienware harder instead

High-stacking, low-selling PC maker Dell is planning to dump some of its XPS range of power machines, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Thanks to Dell’s buying of Alienware in 2006, the box-shifter has no need for a high-end range of its own and will instead start pushing the Alienware machines harder on its site. The report in the WSJ suggests Dell is worried that its cheaper XPS desktops are competing too well against the equivalent Alienware models…
