HP and Microsoft make Live Search deal

Even when Microsoft is prepared to offer real cash money back to you for using its search engine, it seems that some people are having trouble making the right decisions. Not to worry though – Microsoft has a fool proof plan to ensure that every new PC user chooses Windows Live Search. The Redmond Giant has signed a deal with Hewlett-Packard to embed a Live Search toolbar on all new consumer PCs in North America from next year.

Microsoft still umming and arring over Yahoo bid, decision expected today

A takeover of Yahoo would be the biggest acquisition in Microsoft’s history and it isn’t about to rush in willy-nilly. Of course, the Redmond giant happily gobbles up smaller companies without batting an eye-lid – the monster corporation probably already ate three before its power-brunch this morning.

However, Yahoo’s refusal of its $41.8bn (£21bn) bid and the passing of the April 26th deadline means that Microsoft has to give up and walk away, increase its offer or start getting hostile…

Facebook opening up public profiles to search engines

Facebook’s developers yesterday announced that they’d be opening up publicly-available member profile information to the likes of Google and other search engines, and allowing non-members to search for people from the front page of Facebook.

All users have a choice over whether their listings are accessible in this way, by altering their privacy settings. However, given recent member stupidity, that’s easier said than done. A lot of Facebook users, it has to be said, are more interested in adding bizarre applications and letting their personal information spread itself all over the place, rather than limiting their profiles.
