If money is no object and you are looking for a sleekly designed piece of kit to wow your mates with, the GLA-55 speakers are certainly an eye-catching proposition. £749.99 is a hell of a price tag, but you can sit smug knowing that there are only 3,000 units currently in the world, and that you'll be one of the exclusive few who can afford them.
Kerchoons KBox – pocket-sized vibrating speaker
We’ve seen these things before; vibrating units that turn whatever surface they’re on into giant speakers. The advantage with the amusingly named Kerchoons KBox is that it’s not shaped like a butt plug.
This time, what we’re looking at is a USB-charged device with around 20 hours of battery life and it’s about the size of an iPhone. Do I stutter?
It delivers a slightly bottom heavy frequency response of 40Hz – 20KHz, which isn’t massive, but, then, it does only cost £39.99 plus a fiver in the post. It plugs into just about anything you like and uses a patented gel on the underside to make whatever surface it touches vibrate and create the sweet sounds.
Probably not one for the audiophiles but certainly fun, if nothing else.

Serpent Speakers offer flexible audio without that hissing noise
Snakes don’t have ears – they rely on vibrations to go about their snaky business, but if they did they’d surely appreciate these aesthetically pleasing “Serpent Speakers” by designer Ben Wahrich.
Eclipse shows off TD712zMK2 high-end speakers
Eclipse has shown off a second version of its TD712z speakers, conveniently titled TD712zMK2. There are a heap of specifications that will boggle the mind, but the highlights are that these steel, zinc, aluminium and composite constructed speakers feature a highly advanced single 12cm Time Domain drive unit, a redesigned damping system, more powerful motor system and ultra-efficient high-power magnet structure.
The aim is a pure, powerful sound — and at £5,000 a pair and with each speaker weighing in at 25kg you’d expect some serious audio goodness.
LG has 'modular' VX9600 Versa in the works
Smartphone buyers have so many choices – do you want a touchscreen? A QWERTY keyboard? External media buttons? 5-megapixel camera? 3.5mm headphone jack? In many cases, the features you need dictate the phone you’re getting, before usability, software and design even come into it.
That’s why I’m quite excited by the VX9600 Versa, which promises to be ‘modular’, meaning you’ll be able to plug in whatever features you want when you need them. In the image above, you can see a plug-in QWERTY keyboard and gamepads and stereo speakers are rumoured too. Sounds promising, but there’s absolutely no ship date yet, so the chances of this appearing in the near future are slim.
