First Blu-ray players for under $300 alert!
The cheapest Blu-ray players in the world have just clocked in at the American supermarket chain, Wal-mart, at under $300 – roughly £150.
Available for $298, the Magnavox NB500MG9 and Sylvania NB500SL9 have some nice features surprisingly, including Blu-ray Final Profile 1.1, HDMI 1.3, and DVD ‘upscaling’ to 1080p. Still, they’re not quite as cheap as those $99 Toshiba HD DVD players…
Shiny Video Preview: Toshiba Portégé M800 laptop
Yesterday I got hands-on with the Portégé M800 laptop minutes after it was announced, and have to say I was really impressed with my first trial of it. With its white glossy casing, silver accents and white LED lights, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was an updated MacBook. But no – it runs Vista, and will…

In addition to the Portégé M800, Toshiba also announced the Satellite A300 notebook at the Paris press launch this morning.

Available in Glossy Mercury Silver, the A300…
Toshiba adds the limited edition Portégé M800 notebook to their collection
At a press launch in Paris this morning, Toshiba has given the masses a couple of new laptop models to gnaw their teeth over indecisively. The Portégé M800, pictured, is unlike their previous Portégé offering (the R500), as it’s finished in a pearl-white casing, with silver contrasts and white LEDs.
Measuring in at 13.3″, it will be released into the wild in Europe, the Middle East and Africa later this year, Q3 to be ‘precise’…

Toshiba Portégé R500 now offered with 128 SSD
Toshiba’s slinky little Portégé R500 notebook has just received some after-release love, in the shape of a 128GB solid state drive.
Up until now, you and I have had to put up with its paltry 64GB drive, which has ensured its world’s lightest and thinnest title (well, before the MacBook Air came along and ruined it all). The new weight of the notebook looks to be 979g, with the original…

Opinion: Toshiba laptop face-recognition is a waste of tech time!
Jonathan Weinberg writes…
So you’re buying a new laptop. Large hard disk, check! Fast processor, check! Windows Vista, well if I must! Face-recognition to stop unauthorised people from logging into it, blimey – what is this, Star Trek?
Well, that could be the newest addition to your techno-arsenal if you snap up one of
Toshiba’s latest notebooks, the Satellite U300, A300 or P300.
Not only are they full spec’d up to the nines, the most interesting bit of gadgetry inside
has to be the camera that matches your face to the one stored in the memory, before it’ll let you into the desktop.
And it’s also the most useless bit of gadgetry I’ve seen in a while…
