RoboCop could be a reality on Britain's streets before the 22nd century

The top bod studying artificial intelligence and robotics believes that we could have robot security guards, autonomous police cars, and humanoid traffic wardens patrolling Britain’s streets within the next 75 years.

Professor Noel Sharkey of the University of Sheffield has been studying the evolution of robots and how they’ll be increasingly used in modern society.

Robots will have access to integrated databases of information on Brits’ bank accounts, tax, vehicles, shopping history, criminal records, and even what they’re doing. This would then allow them to identify who people are (accurately, hopefully)…

The WSJ reckons that Dell wants a bit of the lucrative music retailing pie as well, so is planning to launch what industry experts will be calling an “iTunes killer” alongside its alleged range of players…

UK visits to blogs on the rise: 1 in every 84 web sites

June’s UK Internet usage statistics suggest that blogs are enjoying a massive surge in popularity, with one in every 84 web site visits landing on a blog. That’s up 101% in the past three years, which is greater than more traditional web sites such as news and media sites.

Rather optimistically, some are suggesting that this proves that blogs are proving more popular, or that the UK populace suddenly understands blogs and deliberately seeks them out…

The MDA reckons we’re burning through our free text allowance at a rate of 200 million text messages a day, which, by my maths, is nearly four texts per person every day – a rise of 30% over the number we sent last year…
