Microsoft admits "we probably got the pricing mix wrong", and slashes prices of Windows Vista
The sign seen in a US shop window was obviously an omen, as Crazy Steve Ballmer and his Crazy Warehouse Prices has slashed the price of Vista. Just one year after launching…
So far it’s only been confirmed for the US, with the UK market probably going to see an increase in price as we always have to compensate for other countries’ low prices. PS3, anyone?
Ok, admittedly I know they would never dare increase the price for Vista here, but at the time of writing, no official announcement has been made for Europe and the UK in regards to the lowering of the higher-end versions.
At $399, Vista Ultimate will see a huge reduction down to $319, and Vista Home Premium will jump from $159 to $129. More than 100…
Microsoft conspiracy theory #472: Rihanna & Michael Jackson's subliminal 'Soft endorsement
Am I going completely nuts and verging dangerously close on Zune-guy’s obsession with Microsoft, for hearing the lyric ‘It’s the sound, the sound of Microsoft’ within winter-loving pop-strumpet Rihanna’s ‘Please Don’t Stop The Music’ song?
Our ever informative Stu from My Chemical Toilet has told me the repetitive background lyric in the song (more noticeable at 2.40 minutes into the track) is actually a sample from Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Something’, which various lyrics directories claim is him singing ‘Ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa, ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa’. (Apparently originally taken from Cameroonian saxophonist Manu Dibango’s ‘Soul Makossa’).
Tinfoil-hat-wearers, got an opinion? Is this just typical Michael Jackson gobbledy-gook or a subliminal brainwashing attempt from Microsoft to sell more copies of Word…

Microsoft is making money too – and even Vista's starting to take off
As well as Apple bragging about how much money it’s raked in so far this year, Microsoft is expected to announce some rather pretty upwards-pointing graphs this week too.
Analysts are predicting a huge 66% rise in profits for MS over the last year, as despite the numerous financial disasters going on around the globe people are still buying new computers so their internet loads faster and World of Warcraft looks a bit prettier…
Man gets Windows Vista running on his Asus Eee PC
See? It can be done!
The secret is, apparently, whacking a huge SD card into the Eee PC’s expansion slot and letting Vista use that for its special needs rather than the rather limited file space available on the Eee PC’s solid-state drive.
He’s even..
Asus is aiming to sell a staggering 3.8 million Eee PCs next year – some with Windows on
Although the fact that it’s currently sold out everywhere in the whole world doesn’t give us a huge amount of faith that the Asus manufacturing facilities can churn out that many of the uber-portable laptops.
The big new selling point that’ll push the Eee PC to the ‘next level’ is Windows. Currently the Eee PC ships with a very cool version of Linux that’s lovely and…
Mac OS X Leopard coming Friday 26th October, 6pm. Read it and weep, Vista lovers
Cutting it a little fine, and in the knowledge that Microsoft worshippers will use the fact that Apple delayed it by four months thanks to iPhone deadlines against it, Apple has finally announced the official date for the launch of…
