See that rather run-down looking building? Website hosting company 1&1, which manages over 10 million domain names, has just announced plans to convert it – a never-used Nuclear waste facility – into a massive server farm powered by renewable energy.
Learn, or teach, a language online with Myngle
It’s tough learning a language. It’s easy to start, but it takes a loooong time to become proficient, and if you’re not using it every day it’s difficult to keep it in your head. If you need to learn a language, for work or just for fun, then Myngle might be for you.
The language-learning service has just hit 100,000 unique users a month, and left beta status. It allows anyone to learn or teach a language from their computer. The latest stats say that students from 152 countries are learning a language from teachers in 62 countries. Languages offered right now include Arabic, Kazakh, Finnish, Sanskrit and Cebuano. If you know where Cebuano is spoken, then give yourself a pat on the back.

Tokoni – sharing stories with a friendly community
A husband and wife team of former executives at Skype and eBay have banded together to create Tokoni – a site which lets you tell your story in the form of notes, photos and video. Tokoni has been in beta for a year, but launches today. It differs from a blog network because it’s more community-focused. Co-founder Alex Kazim explains:

Busuu hosts different units which you work your way up what they call “learning trees” – in a moderately literal sense, as your learning is actually represented as a trees. NASA is celebrating it's 50th Anniversary with a party.
Not a crazy, balls-out, scientists running around getting naked and drunk kind of party. No. What they're having is a balls-out, online, multimedia, Flash-animated, interactive website kind of party. Rock on!
Actually, they are gonna have a real party (a 'gala', no less) later in the year ('balls-out', as yet unknown), but they really have launched an interactive, online, what-i-said-above website to celebrate, and it's really quite good. I've been playing with it for over an hour now, and it's endlessly fascinating. It really is!
I mean, I'm a sucker for pictorial versions of anything. I hate sitting down with a sheet of text and having to read it all, so an interactive, online, thingamy-what-i-said-above is a great fun way for NASA to really communicate (especially to the kids) what exactly it is they've been doing for the past 50 years.

A new guy moves in to the place next door, and he seems nice enough – all smiles, and quiet, and polite, and stuff.. But, no-one is really that nice, are they?

Well, if you live in America, there is now a convenient, free, online way for you to find out. Yes, spying / invading privacy has just got that little bit easier: criminalsearches.com is a beta website (i.e. ‘in development’), that allows anyone with access to the internet (that’s everyone now, right?) to search for any and all criminals living in their neighbourhood, or State, or indeed, Country. Not only that, but the website lists what crimes they were convicted of, and, brilliantly, their names and addresses too.
iPhone 3G pre-orders take down O2 website, 16GB iPhone gone already, PAYG later this year
From 8am this morning, O2’s web site started accepting iPhone 3G pre-orders. Around an hour later, the site crashed due to heavy volume. At around 11.30am, the web site reappeared, claiming that the 16GB iPhone 3G was already unavailable.
At a similar time, The Carphone Warehouse’s web site started taking pre-orders, but their shopping cart refused to accept 16GB iPhone 3G orders, placing the 8GB model into the basket instead. About half-an-hour later, pre-ordering was removed, and only came back online at about 11.30am…
